Sam, you're making me rewrite what I have already written in the first post you commented on. :) If one has a foul intent and uses a cuss word.... or if one has a foul intent and uses a replacement word... with the same tone and intent... then what is the difference? Nothing... the INTENT was still to display frustration or aggravation through a foul word. And just because one said freak or darn instead of F or D... what is the difference? Nothing... the person who uses the replacement word still... at least temporarily... had a heart issue.

I agree with this. And the reverse would also be true. Saw a promo for some TV sitcom recently where a woman pulled out a champagne bottle, held it between her legs, and then simulated popping it while telling two men in the room that they should all celebrate by "popping the cherry" on that bottle. One of the men asked her if she knew what that meant, and she said, "What? Open the bottle?"

It was comedy, of course, but it raises the question of what if someone is using a term or expression that actually has lewd connotations, though they don't know it. Are they sinning when they don't even know what they just said? I could cite numerous examples of people doing so without their knowledge. Even the term "rock and roll," which is now long engrained in the culture and sounds almost benign, was originally a reference to having sex in the back of a car.

I agree with Ken. Intent has everything to do with whether you are engaging in a sin that is truly grievous to the Spirit of God or not.

In Christ, when you are in him, and with him, nothing can ever separate you from God after your born again in him... Not even sin...

In fact if your overly aware of this fact, you might think, at times, why you can never get away from him, but...

Anyhow,

God Bless!

Oh yes... "Love covers a multitude of sins..." Also innocent shed blood of someone greater than you, covers you no matter what for a lifetime...?

If only you believe in it and him, by faith...

Peace,

God Bless!

Does that mean, even if I choose to walk away from Him?

If it is not stated, in the bible it does not mean it is automatically a sin. Breathing air is not stated in the Bible as a sin or not, but if we follow the logic that you are implying, then it would be a sin to take a breath. What I am saying is if you are going to say that something is a sin, shouldn’t you have some scripture to back it up? I do not think that you have the authority to condemn someone to eternal hell for something on your own.

Did someone condemn someone else to "eternal hell?"

There is scripture to back up the idea that cursing is wrong. The question we've been discussing here is "What exactly constitutes that wrongful practice?"

BTDT. But a few seconds later I figured out that holding my breath was also a sin.

So I prayed until I sensed the voice of the Lord saying "Breathe!" Then I could do that in faith. "Faith comes by HEARING...."

Is not the price of sin spiritual Death(Hell), If anyone wants to state that something is a sin and has scripture that backs it up, then I agree, but if not then they would be the one condanming someone to hell.

If your turning away for a good reason that only he seems to know and understand fully, Iif your faith fails not in the whole process, which he might be taking you through a process, If your faith doesn't fail, fails you not I do not think so, but God might take a step back, but/and you can always come back, and you might still be one of his even if you don't, only he knows that...

It is not "sinning" per se that sends us to hell - rather, it is one specific sin: unbelief.

The way I see it, cursing has a couple problems with it. We know that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. So if you're still doing it, then something is wrong with your heart. I still do it occasionally, but I'm aware of it and am putting a bridle on it as much as I can, lol. I used to be a real turd talker The danger in cursing absentmindedly is that it will lead to more ungodliness.

2 Timothy 2:15-16
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.../

The way that one puts swearing behind them, is to immerse oneself in the Word of God, and it will fill their heart to the point that any iniquity present will overflow so to speak ad be replaced with the knowledge of God.

It's a good idea to take not swearing seriously.

Matthew 12:36

36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.../

That's scary enough to make me want to stop it!

Here is Jesus doing it himself.
"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. - Matthew 23:27

P.S. My Favorite Verse

And when the Lord of All Creation says, "Woe unto you!" all the forces of woe in the universe stand up and get in line.

When Jesus starts tossing woe-grenades, it's better to be behind Him than in front of Him.

I understand what you're saying, and agree with the overall premise. That notwithstanding, shaving my head bald is neither beneficial nor edifying, but that doesn't make it wrong.

It might be. Depends on which master you were serving when you made that decision.

So you are saying that once I am born again, I can commit any sin I want and get off Scott free.

No. Rather the situation is:

For I do not do the good that I want to do, but I practice the evil that I do not want to do. Now if I do what I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but it is the sin that lives in me.

So I discover this principle: When I want to do what is good, evil is with me. For in my inner self I joyfully agree with God’s law.

But I see a different law in the parts of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and taking me prisoner to the law of sin in the parts of my body.

What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this dying body? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord!
-- Romans 7

There are a lot of people who do evil because they actually want to do evil, and they ask such questions as, "Is <blank> a sin?" so that they can tread the very edge of what they think is righteousness and claim to have stayed within the lines.

If in their inner selves they actually joyfully agreed with God's law, they would not ask "Is <blank> a sin?" They would ask, "Lord, what can I do for you today?" so that they can walk in the center and not worry about where the edge is.

I'm saying only God knows the details of the complete why or how we came to still sin occassionally, and sometimes even after being born again, but that's where God really comes in...

For only he knows, we often may not even know ourselves, let alone other people being able to fully know other people that way...? Only he knows...

God Bless!

From abundance of the heart speaks the mouth. If a person is swearing, it's the contents of their heart. Unhappiness, anger, disappointment, fear. Not fruits of the Spirit, but of the devil.

This threat reminds me of a question I had for my pastor and a Wednesday night after a long, terrible day at work -- "Is cussin' OK if I don't take the Lord's name in vain?"

His answer was not conclusive, although he did say that a question we should ask ourselves before engaging in any behavior is whether such is true, kind or necessary. His advice? Err on the side of caution...

Ask forgiveness if and when you do...?

You'll eventually stop if you keep doing that...

God Bless!
