I do taekwondo and friday night at class we were doing this twisting kick thing that ive done before, but this time it really hurt my right leg/knee. When i told my instructor that it hurt to throw the kick he told me that that means that the knee is not in good shape. :( Is there really something wrong with my knee and how can i find out(other than going to the doctors maybe)

PS knee injuries are very common in taekwondo or any martial arts so im kinda worried theres something wrong..... :(

I would see a doctor and they can refer you to an orthopedic doctor and they will be able to tell you what's up with your knee. There is a great online site called the kneeGuru it covers almost everthing you could want to know about knees.

I've taught teakwondo for years. Can you explain in detail the kick you did, so I could tell you. There is a twist kick, that when I do it correctly, it pinchs a nerve and the leg goes numb for a sec or two. Like hitting the funny bone. And where you doing speed drills or overextending?

Cause the twist kick is simular to front kick, except you roll it to the outside. So right leg starts the kick like a front kick and ends with the toes and knee pointed to the right.

yes that was the kick i was doing. It was not a speed drill. My leg also felt the same one night when we were doing axe kicks......

it did kinda feel like i was pinching a nerve.

Hmmm. I don't know why it would happen during an AX kick. You can kinda cheat the twist kick, so it won't pinch. If you're kicking with the right leg, rotate your hips more to the right, and let your right hip drop a little bellow your left hip. You won't have to rotate the leg as much towards the outside, which will releive that pinching on the nerve. And slow down that particual kick.

Now, on to the Ax kick. If it hurts your right leg on the twist kick, then does the ax kick hurt when you kick with the right or when the right is the support for a left ax kick. Cause if the right hurts when it is the support, it is cause you are torqueing your knee, go up on to the ball of your toes more. If it still hurts with this, you may have a small injury to you ligiment. If it hurts when your kicking leg is the right leg, it maybe something else. Does that make sense.

I have a IT Band injury (ligiment) got during a strech. But its such a small injury, there is nothing I can really do about execpt one leg squats, to build up knee strength, and help strentghing other knee muslces.
