Juno was a Roman goddess, wife of Jove, Queen of the Gods. I don't get what the point is with her, either. She didn't like Aeneas, really liked Queen Dido and Carthage....

Juno is an example of what theotokos does not mean. Montalban is not saying that Mary was the cause of God, that she created God, or that God arose out from her, or that she preexisted God. At the same time, MamaZ is not saying that the Son of God was created at birth from Mary, that the Son of God did not exist until He was born in the flesh. But however else one wants to understand it, clearly Jesus Christ came in the flesh (2 Jn. 1:7).

OTOH, to be fair, Montalban are you saying that Mary is the cause of God?

MamaZ are you saying that there was a time when the Son of God did not exist?

Theotokos is literally God-bearer. Think of the ark, it bore the animals, but it didn't create them. They existed before and after the ride, yet without the ark, they wouldn't exist after the flood. Mary ascented to God and bore the Son of God.

At the same time, we are the temple of the Living God.

My own mother did not conceive Christ in her womb, contribute His humanity to Him or give birth to the Son of God incarnate. My mom was not the Mother of God (since Jesus Christ is God and has always been the Son of God), God gave that honor to Mary. And before you say that we all bear Him in us--we did not all conceive Him in our wounds by the Holy Spirit, we did not contribute His humanity and human nature to Him, we did not go into labor and give birth to Him, nor did we change His seat covers, breastfeed Him, or take care of Him when He was sick. Mary did all of that. I esteem my own mother greatly and wish she was still here on earth. I miss her a lot.

The issue started by an examination of what one can know from sola scriptura

So, scripture must be in accord with the oral tradition as well. Just as we are to trust the written is protected by the Paraclete so we must trust the oral to be protected by the Paraclete. And like the Christians did (in scripture too) we will look to the Church founded by the Apostles (Apostolic Succession).

How can that be a problem for anyone who mischaracterizes what there IS to address, inSTEAD of quoting, so they can make spurious assertions about what we believe?

Why bother to write anything down if oral tradition is just as good?
Writing would just be an invitation to disasterous interpretation.
