I think this thread is over;

I think not.

the answer to the OP is in Massimo Pigliucci's book, which anyone interested can read.

It seems that not even you have read it. You can't articulate a single argument Pigliucci gives or the "advocates of scientism" he refers to.

And would you say that Massimo Pigliucci was using it that way in his book?

Or are you just descending to ad hominem to avoid the point that he's making?

Thanks for asking, but the answer is none of the above.

I'm just observing how it is used in these forums. For example, there have been several posts in this very thread which show the behavior I'm talking about. One poster has even gone so far as to claim that a number of unnamed people are followers of scientism but when asked who and how he knows, unilateral declared the question disingenuous and the conversation over.

That's not the behavior of someone who is interested in actually exploring other people's belief, but it is consistent with one who is looking to tar and feather someone whose beliefs make them uncomfortable.

Then again the science tells us that the universe just appeared out of nothing,it has no meaning and no purpose and that is the theory of chaos.
Also they tell us that G is a constant when is not...they just measure it in several labs and they deliver us the average number not to mention that a couple of times in history the G number was quite far away for what is considered the average.

We are also taught that we are biological machines that are not really conscious because well the mind is generated by the brain.

We also face a the another type of dogma,one that defies everything,the scientific materialism.

No science did not tell you any of that. There are many views and beliefs on how we interpret science. You are only looking at your own.

Can you explain to me how you arrived at those conclusions.

"Informally, chaos is also used to refer to disorder and randomness. Disorder and randomness are themselves rich concepts that are part of the study of complex systems. They are distinct from the notion of deterministic chaos and confounding them should be avoided. The notion of a "chaotic environment," should probably be replaced most of the time with "complex environment," since the term complex is justifiably used to refer both to deterministic chaos and to the randomness of disorder."
