Is Satan really this powerful??

Um just asking but who tempted Jesus in Matt 4?

And just how do you know that the Behemoth and Levitiathen weren't real animals now extinct?

I think the Temptation story tells us a lot of true about Jesus' mission and calling. I don't see why I need to believe in it literally.

As for the legendary animals, believe what you like. But then, why not believe in dragons, sphinxes, lizopards, chimeara, hydra, minotaurs and other legendary creatures? After all, if they wrote about them, they must have seen them. They can't (shock horror, sound of fundamentalist fainting) have used their imaginations, can they?

Gee, do you think you could be a bit more constructive? Sounds to me like you want to instigate a debate.

Satan is mentioned more than two dozen times in the bible. If you're questioning the validity of scripture, why not start a new thread in the apologetics section.

truth is very annoying , Katydid,and it appears to have made it's way into your hearts. i do not compromise scripture to be a mr goody two shoes, and if that verse is annoying you, and then you quote a verse that it appears you've not understood. ___________That verse represents the inner self, the spirit and soul, and not a piece of flesh. So if i've reached into that part of you, i would have to quote Heb 4:12 that i've gotten to some weakness of yours and whovever ditto'd your quote.

I also did not understand the "We Love" comment.......what I think you are trying to say is that "Satan" only has as much power as we allow? Am I understanding you correctly?

Ive seen alot of great replies here.. so I will agree - for the most part.

I believe Satan has power that is very swift.. you really have to watch yourself and take that leap that Satan will leave you alone on Gods will.

and.. just because you say you have faith doesnt mean he will leave you alone... he will always strike at you... always test you.. and try to catch you at your worst moments.. thats when your faith is tested.

So to answer your question... I believe he can be and cant be

God is all powerful and IF u belong to God (that is have HIM) then the only thing that satan can do to u is what God allows him to. The bible teaches that we r here for one thing to be tested and tried. God will allow satan to test u to see if u will stand for God and serve Him. One way is to deny ourselves and keep God's commandments. Remember Jesus said (If u love Me u will keep My commandments). Love is and act more than a feeling. U can have feelings of love for someone but if actions do not back up those feelings do u really love that person. Satan is probably the most powerful angel (he at one time had authority over the earth, he held the keys of life and death on earth). He is so powerful that he is considered a god. When Jesus was talking to a demon that inhabited a person the demon addressed Jesus as the son of the most high God. I hope this helps u a little.

OK I didn't know where else to put this but my question is, Is satan really this powerful? So here is the deal

Two months ago, my husband and I decided to start going to church. So, the first week, my son got sick. The next, my husband ended up out of town for work. The next, my husband and I were both sick. The next my husband's ex was visiting (she is athiest and would not let us take my stepson so we didn't go). This last one, we had to stay up waiting for someone who couldn't find our house and they didn't get here til 3 a.m.


I mean, we are TRULY wanting to go, but EVERY week we prepare, we plan, then Saturday comes and something happens that keeps us from going on Sunday.


Is satan REALLY this powerful?




P.S. I told my husband that unless one of us is in the hospital on Sunday we are going.
