Hello everyone. I wanted to know if when a person receives Christ in their heart and experiences transformative changes in their life, that person is eternally saved, even if they distance themselves from God at some point.

I know of cases of Christians who have borne fruit for years and then completely distanced themselves from God, living a life driven by the world (money, lust, etc.).

Do these people still maintain their salvation? Or were they never saved?
Remember I clarified that these are people who have borne very good fruit and have experienced profound changes after knowing Christ.
What will happen to them?
Thank you.

I apologize if I posted this message in the wrong forum and for any inconsistencies that may exist in the message, since it was translated from Spanish using Google Translate.
Because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.” (Hebrews 12:6)

If those people you mentioned are truly born again then they can expect to be disciplined by the Lord God for their backsliding at some stage in their life - God decides that not them. This disciplining will bring them to repentance and refine them as pure silver. Backsliding is never good, but some Christians get caught up in it because they stop growing in Christ and weren't spiritually fulfilled so they end up following the desires of their flesh. They are still saved, but not living in the fullness of God's grace and displaying the power of the spirit in their lives anymore.

Here are some things from GotQuestions.org that you can read on the subject:

I hope this helps?

Victor.

How do I know if I am truly a Christian?
A Christian will be battling against and overcoming sin, doing good, producing good fruit in general. This the equivalent of saying that they’ll be growing in the knowledge and love of God, and in love of neighbor.

While we have breath, there is hope for us. God is faithful and just. The cross covers every sin we can commit in life.

Heb 9:27-28 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many.

The fact is Christians can wander into sin. But God's desire is to restore them:

Eze 33:11 Say to them: 'As I live,' says the Lord GOD, 'I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?'

Jas 5:19-20 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.

But the reality is if we deny Christ by our lifestyle we can fall away, having been born again.

2Pe 2:20-22 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: "A DOG RETURNS TO HIS OWN VOMIT," and, "a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire."

Heb 6:4-8 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame. For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated, receives blessing from God; but if it bears thorns and briers, it is rejected and near to being cursed, whose end is to be burned.

How do you explain:

2Pe 2:20-22 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. As for the verse about the destruction of the flesh (Cor 5:1-5). That refers to handing one to Satan, so that the sinner feels the wrath and destruction that comes with sin. It forces the person to turn from their sins. It does not, however guarantee they will be saved. It is just a method God uses to restore a sinner to faith and obedience.

In Titus 2:11-13, our salvation is descried as being trained by grace to do what is godly, righteous, and good, and to renounce doing what is ungodly, so someone can participate in that training and then cease to participate in it. Someone who is being saved from being a doer of lawlessness but then returns to being a doer of lawlessness is no longer being saved from being a doer of lawlessness.

Ezekiel 18:21-24 “But if a wicked person turns away from all his sins that he has committed and keeps all my statutes and does what is just and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. 22 None of the transgressions that he has committed shall be remembered against him; for the righteousness that he has done he shall live.23 Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord God, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live? 24 But when a righteous person turns away from his righteousness and does injustice and does the same abominations that the wicked person does, shall he live? None of the righteous deeds that he has done shall be remembered; for the treachery of which he is guilty and the sin he has committed, for them he shall die.
