Is Pokemon okay?

I was just wondering whether it really is okay for me to like Pokemon?

Because ive always liked it, and i still do. But when i searched for it on google, i found a load of sites that said that Christians shouldn't like it because it is supposed to be satanic.
I can't understand how it could be satanic, and this really upset me.

So please could someone clear this up for me, because iam feeling really down. Thank you.

Of course it's ok to like it. Liking Pokemon is just as sinful as drinking water. The only people who have a problem with it are paranoid closed-minded christians.

I see closed mindedness into two lights. It is close minded to not look at something because you have heard it is wrong. It is also close minded to not look yourself to see if it really is wrong. Someone who accepts just everything as OK is close minded to the possibility that it may not be OK. An open minded person looks at all views, arguments, and perspectives. This is a common mistake made by people who are against someone who is against something. They are close minded to their views, it is an oxymoron so to say. I don't mean anyone specific, I don’t mean you are this way Invader Pichu, I just wanted to be clear that Creationist2004’s concerns are valid.

As far as Pokemon goes I don’t think it is evil or wrong to watch it. Some Christians have gone to a way too far extreme on putting it down and are really are cherry picking it to death. It is anime, so yes, it will contain “Japanese” culture elements. I see it as a grey area, which I describe more in this thread: http://www.christianforums.com/showthread.php?p=1718192#post1718192

I used to be a huge pokemon fan, and I found all of these websites calling it satanic.

I gave it up after much talking with my mother.
I knew nothing about Japan.

I was very naive, and mislead.
Most of the things in Pokemon can be said about just about everything.
"GO INTO THE CIRCLE AND SUMMON A DEMON!" - wrong. Walk into an arena and call up a live animal that is with you.

"SOME POKEMON SING OTHERS TO SLEEP, THIS IS BAD COS BUDDHIST MONKS USE MANTRA TO MEDITATE!" ..so? Are Christians forbade meditation?


Yes, most of the pokemon are based on Japanese kami and faerie tales..but who cares?

If you want my opinion, think about it, the entire anime is based on friendship. I have watched Pokemon for years and never had a problem with it.

Don't listen to those websites that say Pokemon is santic, cause it isn't.

I mean, like I said, it's based on friendship, not demons. Pikachu and Ash are side by side companions. I certanly would not call Pokemon to be santic if they will do anything to protect their masters and friends from harm.

And after all, there are some people out there on the net who really just post stuff like that just to discourage others. So I really wouldn't worry about it. Pokemon is a great anime and I love it.

I gotta agree, its pretty harmless. Its about trust, friendship, and good hearted fun. The main characters help out those in distress. They are not summoning demons. Go for it.

I found lots of sites on the net that claimed that Christian rock is satanic. This pretty much falls into the same category. Personally I don't think there's anything satanic about it.

Yes, like "Dial-The-Truth Ministries". I see where it is harmful to be so legalistic. They told my friend he was possessed with demons because he was saved at a Stryper concert... Geez.

When I lived in Japan, Pokemon was very much marketted to children. Diaper commercials even, little children's food. Everything about it was aimed at children, actually. I felt like a huge fool going into the Pokemon section of the Ito Yokado store..
I'd say 10 would be the oldest that it was really aimed for.

A lot of things said about Pokemon are true.
It is full of Japanese kami figures and a lot of things some people would find "satanic."
However, there's just nothing "satanic" about those things, in truth.
A lot of the stuff they say is just bogus, too. Like the stuff about the witchcraft hidden in it and what have you..that's just blatantly ignorance on the part of the writer.
I could take anything and swear that it's full of witchcraft - and what's more, I could prove it in the same ways they prove Pokemon is satanic.

I used to read those articles for fun when I was into Pokemon. The whole "Pokemon is satanic!" thing is so bogus its funny. There was a preacher who apparantly lit pokemon cards on fire with a blowtorch and stabbed a pikachu plush with a sword during a sunday school class. This is why I hate people who take religion to the extreme.

It's kind of true, Pokemon sort of describes demonic sign, however, this doesn't make you an demon as well. I'll explain why, Poke[mon] De[mon]. I hope everyone gets it. I've noticed that, and there was this explanation that someone was addicted to Pokemon once and died in Osaka, Japan. I'm not sure if it's true. But, I think it's ok to like Pokemon. It's up to you anyways.

Hmm...the original japanese title of Poketto Monsuta (if that's the correct romanji, it's been a while) doesn't have a demon connection, though. I just now realised that about the title. I figured it was just a shortcut of Pocket Monster.

In a lot of ways, the Pokemon are "demons" - a nine-tailed Fox, a dream-eater (not sure what animal it is to be, but it appears in Japanese mythology), and many other animals that have their Japanese and other mythological counter-parts.
