  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is playing video games good?

depends on the game and how much you play. in moderation, they can help with reaction time and brain function.

Good sound answer, Matt.
I play a lot of video games. Is this good or it is better to do something other?

It only becomes a danger if:

1. It is an obsession, and starts consuming time that you should be spending with God, with family, or in taking care of earthly responsibilities.

2. The content inspires sinful propensities, such as violent games that desensitize you to murder or sexual immorality. I still play a few games, but as Matt stated, they are usually strategy games that stimulate my mind while providing me with a little healthy recreation whenever I need a break from spiritual work. Nothing wrong with that.

Sometimes it is helpful to journal how you spend a day and see what % of time you are doing what. It may also depend on what type of video game you are playing. If you find you are spending 25%+ of your awake time slaughtering things, that's not good. Video games usually fall in the 'escape from life and relationships' rather than the 'improve life and relationships' category. Experiment and see if there are other things you enjoy, would be my suggestion.

If the grass is always greener on the other side, one must learn to water one's own garden.

Games are neither good or bad depending on how you play them. Making an idol of them means its time to cut back or maybe stop all together. Games have been shown to improve thinking depending on what type of games you play. For some its a great place to escape to.

Another one poster Bulgarian.

Do not, I repeat, do not click the red button.

Games are OK as long as you don't play so much that you neglect the wife and she ends up cheating, because wife is the most expensive thing in creation and then you end up talking to spirits from the dark world who claim they have beautiful wives and lives but they lie

I am not married. Only put married for example. But I will say something: there is no spirits.

Depends. One major dependency would be to earn a livable wage that can support you and even better your family. There are a number of content creators on youtube that earn money from playing games like it was a regular day job. Otherwise if gaming takes up the time and gets in the way of your other responsibilities in life, then it's not good.

What people don't realize about gaming is when they create the games, they insert demons into them because the gaming systems themselves have a "Democapacitor Chip" that lets you trasnfer demons into actual people.

The very SECOND your hand holds the controller and the game starts, demons rush into you through the controller. Then they take over and make you go crazy and want to do evil stuff in games. You'd think your safe when you let go of the controller, but your not! Once you let go the demons just stick inside of you and grow horns out of your head and scream gibberish as you streak naked down the street screaming "Follow the yellow brick road! AHHHHH!!!!". Next thing you know you wake up in bed not knowing what happened but you have a rubber chicken in one hand and on your other hand is the 666 mark. Your clothes are covered in cotton candy, ketchup and feathers. You got a nasty migraine and have an urge to play the game again because the demons are weak and need you to power up for another rampage! BEWARE THE GAMES!!!!

Sarcasm aside, with recent talk of violence related to video games (shootings). Psychologists already did studies on this and find no link at all. Not that it means its ok to play violent games from a christian perspective. However only you know if its really affecting you. If your friends or family notice a change in you then reconsider what your playing. I personally avoid horror games and occult related games. Not into them not only because I'm a christian but because they are boring and all the same.
