• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

is listing to rock and rap a sin?

You don't understand. The mystery of God was not revealed to Christ until the Garden of Gestamane and then later to Paul. I recomend you read the Church epistles addressed to us, which is Romans through 2 Thessalonians where the mystery of God through Jesus Christ was revealed in full to Paul, who revealed it to us, in that we are ALL SAVED by believing in Christ.

I think you also don't understand the fact that God WANTS everyone to be saved. That is why He has made it as easy as possible to become saved, through the simplest act of Free Will, which is beleiving. God sent His Son to do the work for us, to live the perfect life for us, and to take the death that we all deserved, so we wouldn't have to. This is God's great infinite love for us all. He doesn't want to lose anyone, that's why He has made salvation a Free Gift.

God Bless

OK. So help me to understand.

As I stated before, if your position is true, then explain it in light of the Scriptures I have provided you.

If you cannot do that, then it is likely not me who does not understand.

The essence of most rap music is anger and hatred against authority, other races, women and life in general. Rap videos are packed with defiant and angry gestures . They also include half naked women, who's dance and actions depict sexual allure. I think most things are clearly labled if you look closely. As Christians we should be separate from the things of the world. Especially it's obvious temptations.

There are bad Christians. Try reading 1 Corintians 5 and 6.
I tried reading the chapters, but for some reason I couldn't put the words together...I can't read!!!!

Seriously though, if we have the righteousness of Christ can we be on different degrees based on good and bad?

Mature and immature is a different thing...

Paul continuously chides believers in Corinth for being carnal, then warns them that to be carnally minded is DEATH. What do you think that means? In the chapters I speak of, he tells believers to stop even eating with other believers if they are engaged in serious, unrepentant sin -- then tells them that people who continue is such sin will not inherit the children of God.

Having the "rightousness of Christ" isn't like some outer coat God puts on you while you remain filthy in sin. It is effective to CHANGE YOU into that righteousness. However, you can grow in grace, or you can fall away. Both directions are possible. You can fall away even unto Hell.

How can you say you cannot read, yet you read what is posted here? Instead of trying to reason in your head what the "righteousness of Christ" is and does, try seeing what God says it is and does.

But we are separate from the world. And even if God hadn't done a good enough job separating us already, we also have our very own culture, language and music, almost like a world within the world.

I think debating "wordly" music vs. "christian" music is just like debating what kind of food we're allowed to eat. And I think the answer is the same.

Isn't it being "carnally minded" to look not only for wordly or unhealthy things, but even the DEVIL HIMSELF in some musician's work? Don't you already know that the unbeliever is unsaved and has no way or chance of preaching the gospel?
Well, that's not entirely true. God can, and does, use even atheists to reach people.

Why is it that the very people who have recieved and accepted the best news in the whole world are pointing their fingers at BAD news, and even SEARCHING for it? Maybe they don't realize that the good news are in fact good news, I dunno.
But I do know that when I was a struggling legalist, I did the same. When I found out that God had actually forgiven me (we've heard it a billion times, but it still doesn't sit), I started being preoccupied with the finished work of Jesus, pointing at the bridge instead of the gap.

I was being sarcastic...sheesh...
I'm not sure that this proves your point.
What is a bad Christian?
Are you a good Christian?
If so, do you feel good about that?
How do I become as 'good' as you?

You aren't competing with me, my friend, but with Jesus. He is the standard and He says, "Be perfect as your Father in Heaven is perfect."

I would say the direction is what diffrentiates between a good Christian and a bad Christian. One whose life is becoming MORE holy -- MORE like Jesus, is a good Christian. One who excuses sin and covers for himself is a bad Christian. Read the chapters I suggested. Read Matthew 18. We are told to disfellowship unrepentant believers who choose to continue in sin.

I have read the chapters, but still no evidence for bad/good Christians...

You are not compteing AGAINST Jesus, but FOR Him.

1 Corinthians 9:24-27
24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Philippians 3:13-15
13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

No evidence -- not even of those who refuse to repent and end up outside the kingdom?

A carnal Christian is a bad Christian. Paul speaks of them. You have your mind made up. You shouldn't ask about what you already are convinced you know.

There was this blue-pink sweater cult going around that loved the demented act of killing kittens and cursing up a storm in public places. They would actually go out of their way to stand in the middle of a public place, bounce up and down, and rattle off 10-20 obscenities at the top of their lungs. Eventually, some members of our youth group thought it would be cool to purchase some of the same blue-pink sweaters that these cultists were wearing. They too would engage in the bouncing ritual and scream to the top of their lungs scripture.

I just purchased some new stock the other day. It was stock in a company called Christian Playboy. All the models are Christians, who love the Lord dearly. Before every session they have a time in God's Word and in Prayer. They ask God for wisdom on how to plan each take. And they are never prideful - they thank God for their wonderful talents and pray that man all over the country will come to the Lord as a result of their subscription.

Sounds rather STUPID, doesn't it? I look at the roots, the lifestyle of the people who brought about rap, rock,n,roll, and other styles of music and I don't think that God would want anything to do with these styles.

But untrue, how can you consider a band with members who take drugs drink way too much alchohl are covered in tattoos and give out a totally unchristan immage, christian?

not to mention your basing all this on just one song no doubt!

Just the lyrics from their song doesnt make a band christian, for all you know the rest of the song could say. "so i feed the fear to feed the devil" or anything like that you never know its not just the song you look at.

Not to mention Ozzy Osbourne titled/s himself as the prince of darkness, now thats saying somthing!

In this case, it is 'was.' The first album was an excellent Christian album, as was Paranoid, but after they tasted fame with Paranoid... by Master of Reality, they were the devil's tools.

Sad, isn't it?
