Is jealousy a sin?

The LORD is a jealous God. Godly jealousy is not a sin.

From a human husband's point of view, I think feelings of jealousy are not sin, Numbers 5:

14 feelings of jealousy come over her husband and he suspects his wife and she is impure—or if he is jealous and suspects her even though she is not impure—

Paul was jealous in 2 Corinthians 11:

2 I am jealous [G2206 verb] for you with a godly jealousy [G2205 noun]. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him.

Thayer's Greek Lexicon:
STRONGS NT 2205: ζῆλος

1. zeal, ardor in embracing, pursuing, defending anything
2. an envious and contentious rivalry, jealousy.

In the 2nd meaning, it could be sin. 2 Corinthians 12:20

For I am afraid that when I come I may not find you as I want you to be, and you may not find me as you want me to be. I fear that there may be discord, jealousy [G2205], fits of rage, selfish ambition, slander, gossip, arrogance and disorder.

Is jealousy a sin?

There is a godly jealousy which is not sin. There is a fits-of-rage kind of jealousy which is sin.

I agree with you tonychanyt, there is a godly jealousy, isnt that same word used in relation to Christ and the word zeal also?
