I play the game World of Warcraft alot. its the kinda game where you make a character and you go around killing monsters, doing quests and getting lotsa loot.

One of the things Blizz put in the game is a chance roll, where if you are in a party with 2 or more people and a rare item drops, the whole party can either pass or roll on it, and the highest roller gets it.

Now heres what im confused about.

I started praying to God for the items that were being rolled for cuz I would always get nothing, and ya know what, I started winning rare items.... alot.... on a regular basis infact.

Is that a misuse of prayer and gods time and energy to win trivial things like weapons and armor for a computer game?

I dont think im causing any harm by praying for them.... just... I dunno o_O;;

Heck I even pray that others will get what they want too, and they get it!

Is that wrong? I know it sounds weird.

World of Warcraft, often referred to as WoW, is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). It is Blizzard Entertainment's fourth released game set in the fantasy Warcraft universe, which was first introduced by Warcraft: Orcs & Humans in 1994. World of Warcraft takes place within the world of Azeroth, four years after the events at the conclusion of Blizzard's previous release, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. Blizzard Entertainment announced World of Warcraft on September 2, 2001. The game was released on November 23, 2004, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Warcraft franchise.

The first expansion set of the game, The Burning Crusade, was released on January 16, 2007. The second expansion set, Wrath of the Lich King, was released on November 13, 2008.

With more than 11.5 million monthly subscribers, World of Warcraft is currently the world's largest MMORPG in those terms, and holds the Guinness World Record for the most popular MMORPG. In April 2008, World of Warcraft was estimated to hold 62% of the massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) market.

I mean... surely there are better things God could do with his time than get a trivial item for someone's video game.

Nothing is too trivial to God. Maybe He takes that time to grant your prayers just to let you know that you need to talk with him when not playing the video game also.;):D

How much time are you investing in WoW and how much time are you investing in the Bible and in prayer?

in other words, what consumes your life more, WoW or God?

It is not wrong to play games, perhaps not even wrong to pray over events in them... (though a fantasy game that doesn't portray God in it in any reasonable fashion.... I don't play, can you witness to your team mates?)

I'm just saying, do something radical, devote time to God on the same level of dedication you do with WoW.

Yes you can witness to your team mates on there :) You have guilds and in those guilds (a group of people that work together and help each other) you can really get to know each other and share the gospel with them. I think the game is a lot of fun, but it's easy to let a few hours go by while playing it, so you have to watch the clock LOL

I don't think its necessarily a bad thing to enjoy playing the games, but to be so wrapped up in it that you start praying about drop items can be a warning sign you're playing too much or too long. I would just advise that you spend a fair amount of time with God aside from anything involved with your game. The socialization that comes in the games are good definitely, but to me, it still doesn't stack up with real-life time spent with friends or fellowshipping with other Christians.

I've played videogames similar to WoW, but I've never prayed for anything in a videogame. If it's a dice roll, it's pure luck. Besides, do you think you should be entitled to more favorable dice rolls just because you're Christian? :p

And I wouldn't worry about spending more time playing videogames than you spend in prayer or reading the Bible. After all, you probably spend more time going to classes or working than you'll ever be able to spend in prayer or Bible study. I would think of it more in terms of quality than quantity. Is it more important to you than your religion? That's the question you should be asking.

I also wouldn't try to "witness" to people unless they asked for it. You might get disciplined for harassment. As St. Francis of Assisi said, "Preach the Gospel at all times, and when necessary, use words."

What does it mean to be a disciple of Christ? Our wealthy western evangelical culture frequently falls far short of the biblical standard -- loving God first and above all. WoW and other video games might be entertaining, but they all too often consume our affections and distract us from God's priorities. Tell me, how many hours per day do you spend playing? Not that I'm a betting man, but I'll venture a guess that it far outweighs the time you spend in prayer and the study of God's Word.

Look, I'm not trying to rip a strip off of your tail. The truth is, we all have things in our lives that constantly call us away from our first love; but if you truly are a follower of Jesus, redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, then you're going to want God to determine your priorities. Remember what the Lord said about discipleship. "If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me." [Mt. 16:24] Being a Christian isn't about self-fulfillment; it's about self-denial. Why not give God a truly sweet gift --- something that means the world to you. Why not give up gaming for Him. Take the time you spend entertaining yourself and spend it in the serious study of God's Word. Ask Him to open His Scriptures to you and give you a hunger to learn more. If you do, in no time flat, I think you'll discover the answer to your prayer question...and much much more.

Be blessed, my brother.

You are young. Some young people hate hearing that kind of statement. You will discover as you grow older how the world changes. Being young is fun and filled with excitement and challenge, be sure to be involved in the things that will edify your relationship with Christ.

In your youth games are fascinating, thrilling, challenging etc. The game you are so interested in does not sound like it will benefit your growth in Christ.

Try setting it aside for several months. Spend the time you spend on this game reading God's word and searching for his moral and daily will in your life. After that time you may not have the slightest desire to return.

Now, don't stop being young. Go the gym, run, hike, ride bikes, fish, hunt, check out interesting things around where you live, have fun but this game give is a lot of space and see where God leads you.

Above all spend time reading God’s word. If you do that and you are willing to obey his will for your life you will know in sufficient time.

Why not start today and set that game on the shelf, take at least two months, dedicate the same time to studying God’s word.

Let us know what happens.

If your playing of WOW is not causing you to stumble in your Christian walk, then no, I don't think its wrong. That said - the fact that you are questioning your use of prayer regarding this game to me is a sign that it could become a problem for you. I would advise you to spend some time in the Word and prayer to help you work through this. I do think there is such thing as RPG addiction, and that is something to be very much aware of.

From what I know of it, I don't believe that WoW is inherently sinful. But, like certain other things that are not inherently evil, like drinking alcohol, shopping, and eating, for example, it can be very destructive when it rises to the level of addictive behavior. I believe that addiction to video games can be as bad as addiction to illicit drugs. It saps your time, your money, your usefulness to other people, and your service to the Kingdom. In moderation, however, video games can be a means of lighthearted entertainment, in the the case of online games, can be source of "fellowship" with other players.

I would ask you to consider, therefore, is WoW something that you do for a few hours a week for lighthearted entertainment, or do you find yourself spending hours each day, escaping the real world through the fictional world of WoW?

It can't be very good for Your spirit to kill stuff all day, even in cyberspace.
Praying for trivial stuff like rewards in video games, instead of real people, with real needs ? You can do better!
God Bless!
