  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is it wrong to wear a crucifix?

The Bible does not explicitly prohibit or command the wearing of crucifixes. It is a matter of Christian freedom up to your conscience. Does it remind you of Christ's death and sacrifice? Or do you wear it as a fashion trend? Are you wearing it in faith?

I would not do it. But then, I don't even wear a watch.

Well, if a Christian wears a crucifix, it is okay, however, one might want to be careful to wear a crucifix if working with young folks, or folks who are sensitive with heavy topics, as a crucifix depicts Jesus being executed. I do not wear any crucifix or cross necklace, as my neck is sensitive to wearing necklaces.

Not wearing a watch - I can empathise with that :)

For the 1st century CE believers - not the cross was the symbol of Christianity, but the fish symbol.

Fish in Greek is 'ichthys' - an acronym for 'Iēsous Christos, Theou Yios, Sōtēr' translating to 'Yeshua Messiah/Christ, God's Son, Savior'

If I had to choose a symbol, that would be it.

In Europe it's quite common for Christians to put a fish bumper sticker on their car to communicate they're believers e.g.:
