is it really abad thing to tell your kids that santa clause exists? i grew up believing that santa clause came to my house every year on that one special evening bringing toys and all kinds of funs stuff. i evetually found out that santa doesn't do that stuff anymore, but i want to give my kids the same feeling. but my wife doesn't believe in santa clause. she tought that santa clause doesn't exist. she doesn't want our kids to know about santa clause. well she doesn't want them to think that santa clause brings them presents. yes we are going to tell them the true story of christmas but is wrong to the them about santa clause?

Is it lying to tell your children that santa is real? I would think it is a lie. Therefore, wrong.
Make-believe is wrong then. Fiction books are wrong. Imagination is wrong. When I was a child and read books and watched TV I thought it was real so therefore the people writing the books and the movies lied because they had a story, based in make-believe [imagination] to tell. I certainly don't like that option! [Assuming Santa is not real.]

My lineage is Christian and they all told their children that Santa Claus existed and I remember loving to feel the magic of Christmas Eve, and of baking the cookies for Santa Claus and our dad would stomp snow in the living room making it look as if Santa had been there my Mom would later explain. But between you and me, Santa really WAS there, he just had better sense than to stomp snow in the living room!

Love, Peace and Light,
Santa

oops. Samsara.

Could you name any fiction books or fictional t.v. shows that claim their characters are real? Imagination is great! It's part of what gets you where you want to be in life. But, I feel there is a line that differentiates your imagination from your beliefs!

I imagine I'm a knight in shining armor, come to rescue my wife from the world's evils! :) :) But what I know to be the truth (believe in) is that she a strong-willed person who can make it on her own, without my help.(rescuing)

It is harder for a child to discern truth from reality. That's why parents should be more careful as to what they teach their child. I, for one, would hate to keep my child from God (truth). I mess things up with my children too easily. So I try to get as many things right as I possibly can.

I'll admit, I was one to tell my kids that Santa brought all these gifts and placed them under the tree. But lately, it has really been bothering me that i've done this. I feel that I am lying to my children. So, I won't be promoting the lie anymore. (My 9 year old almost has it figured out, regardless!)

BTW....this is my second Christmas as a Christian. I say this not as an excuse for any of my actions, just to help y'all understand why I've been struggling with this "Satan,....oops Santa" thing! ;)

Here's a point ......... some young people come into CF and read " is it really a bad thing to tell your kids that santa clause exists? "

and they go "Mum , Dad Santa doesn't exist then ???"

see the problem ....

If it's OK to ask the question OPENLY then it flies in the face of the deception .......

I mean I could have been a nine year old child who read the OP and that may have ruined my Christmas ;)
