Is it wrong for me to be searching for my purpose in life?

Discovering my calling was my primary focus when I returned God. My daughter and I devoted ourselves to prayer and fasting. We were shown our purpose and the people we’re meant to serve. Knowing our mission was life altering. Decisions are easier and we’ve developed connections with likeminded Christians on similar paths.

Yours in His Service,

~bella

Have you found the advice from all these beautiful and wonderful people to help you in finding your purpose yet? @Single Dude

Jesus Christ the way, the truth, and the life. Friend. Find purpose in Him, and God will lead you into a fulfilling life of thankfulness, prayer, and worship of God in spirit and in truth.

John 14:6-11

6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. 7 If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him!”

8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.”

9 Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me. 11 Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do.

You might be interested in the book "Providence" by John Piper for something like this. Last I checked, it's on sale for per-order for 50% off at $20, which is a steal for a 700+ page book.

I am considered middle age over the hill so to speak. I have had many jobs in the past but they were not the right fit for me. I have this tendency to want to know what's going on in my life in which I know that is wrong according to the sovereignty of God. I still don't know my purpose here on Earth. Is it wrong for me to not know?

If you like to jumping jobs but maintain there is nothing wrong with that at all either (Paying taxes becomes higher though apparently 98$ per form I got 5 this year oh joy! lol). I do not know how traversing the world if you are being lead by the spirit is considered wrong at all by God, sir.

God is also a wonderful provider of eternal life, and a life giving spirit.

Who doesn't like to travel and see new faces after awhile.

What else has been on your mind?

I've edited/deleted my original comment. It wasn't helpful to the OP. It only served as a means for me to vent. I apologize.

Reminds me of a poem I wrote once upon a time...

Stuck in Neutral

Stuck in neutral going nowhere fast,

Always running ahead but only seeing the past.

Stuck in neutral immobile as a gimp,

Heading for the finish line... last with a limp.

Stuck in neutral with nothing really to show,

Except a blown [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] and a muffler with a hole. (the above was censored by this Forum, see explanation below).

Stuck in neutral this poem is getting to be,

Just like the hand behind it looking to be free.

(Sorry, don't know how all those 'bless do not curse' got in...they aren't in the pasted version, nor were they included in my original.
When I came to edit them out, they aren't seen. Also, after the word the word '[bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]' should show up but doesn't. Weird). OK I see, it is the Forum filters taking the word 'bl---' as a cuss word and slipping in their 'correction'.
Bummer they mangled your poem.
EDIT:
Oh, I think I see what happened here. So is the word "tire" the only thing that was deleted here? And the attempt to delete the offending word was wide right?
Because the word 'bl---' is still showing up. Kinda ironic that without the cencorship I don't think anyone would recognize the word as offensive. But we do now.
Funny. God help me this is funny.
DOUBLE EDIT: Then again, maybe tire wasn't the word that was deleted, but rather a word that should be censored. Shame on you ;). Ok I'll stop. Couldn't help it, though. God help me again.

The purpose of life is to fix the world by being G-d's tool in His hands. He needs you.

What is your greatest struggle? Fix that.
What people in your area of influence are struggling? Help them.

When you've finally done your part to fix all the things G-d wants you to come across via the story of your life, then and only then will he take you home. This life is the test. We are being prepared to receive the glory that we otherwise could not if we hadn't come here. Every test you pass is a moment of growth that adds to the capacity the vessel that G-d always intended for you to become.

That's OK, xaris. No need unless you really want to. I was just having fun. I'm making the assumption that's allowed on this site, but maybe not given the subject matter. (still needing that help, God)

As a rule, we find God's particular will for us by living in obedience to His general will. Why would God reveal more of His will to a person when s/he is not obeying His will already expressed clearly to them in His word, the Bible?

At its core, God' will for each of us is this:

Know God.
In knowing God, love Him.
In loving God, enjoy Him.
In enjoying Him, glorify Him.

Follow this course in your living and the particular will of God just for you will become clear.

Hey Dude, I'm over that old hill, too. :)

"He has told you, O mortal, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?" Micah 6:8

I see myself as having one primary purpose in this life, i.e. to become more and more like Christ. By grace, that's the main thing. It can seem a bit like Sisyphus, at times, lol. At any rate, if that doesn't happen, then everything else I do is meaningless. But if, with God's help, my mind is being renewed and I'm doing everything towards that goal, then everything I do (no matter what it is) is meaningful and purposeful. That's not to negate specific pursuits, but it's my primary sense-making framework for meaning and purpose.

It's not wrong at all to feel like you are unsure of your purpose on this earth. I have similar feelings. I staggered through my early adulthood without Christ, made many poor decisions, and now I am 33 in a job that doesn't feel right for me.

I find consolation through prayer, knowing that I will be guided into the life that is most spiritually beneficial for me. I thank God for the struggles I face because they all contain the seeds of spiritual growth. I feel despondent at times, but I am ever thankful that I am able to work and support myself through the grace of God even if I feel at odds with the work, I am blessed to be able to afford to put a roof over my head.

It's not wrong to feel the way you do. Many people in this world feel similar things. Pray to God that you will be guided into your purpose in this life, and have patience. Sometimes we need to take the long way around to reach our destination

What group of people are you the most interested in serving?
I feel the library scene would be the best fit for me yet due to Covid-19 all the libraries are closed in my area.

It is Wrong not to know your purpose in life and trying to find out is the first step to spiritual enlightenment. God wants you to serve him in a specific way here on earth. Keep praying to God to help you find your purpose in life Because on judgement day Jesus Christ will ask you "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME ON EARTH?"

No. I do not know either, but I have an idea. It is not in the job you have. That is just work for income. Your purpose is going to lie somewhere in your childhood passion. As a child, what was the first thing that moved your soul, like you had a natural passion for it. It may have been animals, or old people or something that really bothered you or moved you. Like homeless people or orphans. Can you think of what it was? Your purpose may lie in there if you can recall. Mine is with foster kids but I am not in a position to do anything right now. I live far from the facilities and if I cannot devote myself I won't do it because more disappointment is the last thing those kids need.

Your purpose is going to lie somewhere in your childhood passion.

That’s true for my daughter and I. She had a passion for medicine and wanted to be a doctor. During high school she volunteered in a clinic. They trained them as wellness advocates. They provided information about heart disease prevention.

She received her calling in her early twenties and just completed training as a wellness coach. It allows her to work from home and raise a family (when she marries).

I loved fashion as a child. Made my first skirt in grammar school and sketched a dress at 16. I was in a fashion design program but couldn’t draw. So I switched. I remember touring my high school as a freshman. We reached the home economics room. There was a strong pull towards it. I didn’t understand at the time. I considered taking the sewing class. I was responding to something internal which revealed itself later on.

Yours in His Service,

~bella
