Sometimes, I feel like in our walk as Christians, we overly complicate things and spend way too much time intellectualizing and philosophizing. We lose sight of the fact that it really isn't that complicated. Jesus gave us simple instructions, but we spend so much time trying to make it fit into our experience that we have lost sight of the most basic things. No wonder so many of us struggle to trust God and not be moved by doubt.
So, I've decided to do a series of back to basics posts. I find that sometimes I just need to push the complexity aside and strip my faith down to bare essentials, so that I can actually see and align myself with God's will, rather than be side-tracked by things that don't really matter.
I want to begin when Jesus began calling the disciples. He simply told them to follow Him and they did. That simple. No questions, no waiting, no buts, no planning. Jesus said, "Follow Me" and they followed Him. Mind-blowing isn't it? Here are some scriptures from the first two gospels:
New King James Version (NKJV)
As He passed by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, Follow Me. So he arose and followed Him.
Mark 2:13-15 (in Context) Mark 2 (Whole Chapter)
Mark 10:21
Doesn't Christ still call us this way? Isn't he saying to you right now, "Follow Me"? So, what are you doing? Stop making this such a big deal and just do it.
