  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is it possible to get the apocrypha in NIV or ESV format?

The NIV is too non-sacramental and too Calvinist to have the Deuterocanonical/Apocryphal Books.

The ESV, however, probably has editions with them included with the universally recognized OT (and NT, of course). I'm not sure if they have a separate ESV Deut/Apoc books unit however. I do know that the NRSV does and you can find it easily on amazon.com.

I'm fairly certian that I heard that someone was considering translating the apocrypha for the NIV. It might have been for some other translation though.

Yes, that's the elector :D

If you look, you'll also see Luther, Melanchthon, etc. ;)

The 1977 update to the RSV contains the Eastern Orthodox deuterocanonicals as well as the Catholic deuterocanonicals. If you want III & IV Maccabees as well as II Esdras and the Prayer of Manasseh, be certain to get the '77 updated version. An example of the Prayer of Manasseh can be found in my signature.
