I write this now in petrifying fear of what I've just experienced. My hands are shaking and my eyes tearing, not knowing what has just occurred. After reading "The Room" by Joshua Harris, given to me by a man who replied to my last post, I was suddenly struck by... I don't know what. I've always suffered from intrusive thoughts, but they've never been this bad. After reading this story, my intrusive thoughts spiked. I was starting to be overwhelmed by horrible thoughts against the trinity, malicious voices, and frightening images, in which I grimaced with every thought. But that's not what scared me. What scared me was when I started to "manifest" in a sense. My fingers bent in ungodly ways (even backwards), my body contorted and cracked, and I basically sounded like the grudge as my neck snapped. I'm petrified in not knowing what I just experienced and the only conclusion I can come to is possession. But... I thought that was impossible for a believer in Christ. Should I seek medical advice? What I should I do? I have no idea what to do.

Some people believe a Christian cannot be possessed, some believe they can. Was what you read something evil? I think the devil may have been harassing you, but I don't think you can be possessed unless you delve into witchcraft, demon worship, Ouija boards and such things that are of the devil. Are you still experiencing these symptoms? Pray against the devil ie I rebuke you in Jesus' name and keep praying or saying Jesus' name over and over again.

Praying for you.

OK....

I'll answer to the title of your question, yes, it is possible for a believer to be possessed.

btw, do you have a history of mental health issues ? if so, is it possible you might be experiencing psychosis?

The spiritual can affect the physical. I wouldn't say that you are being possessed in the sense that a demon is controlling your body, but the spiritual warfare happening in your spirit is manifesting itself physically. Medical help might help, but you need to contact a pastor right now. Doesn't matter who or what, just get some prayer. Call Air1 or K-Love(they're radio stations with prayer teams on phones). God will always win!

Say out loud "I belong to the most high God. I am bought by the precious blood of Jesus Christ. I am the property of Jesus Christ and nothing can harm me."

Rebuke these wicked spirits in Jesus name. Command them to leave you in Jesus's name.

Sing this song often. " Oh, how wonderful is Jesus's blood. Oh, how wonderful is Jesus's blood. The devilish power has been broken by his power. Oh how wonderful is Jesus's blood.

Yes, speak to a pastor or someone who will pray for you.

It is not possible for a Christian to be possessed. It is possible for demons to rough Christians up. There is a story about that in the Bible & other anecdotal evidence.

That said, I'd look for other explanations unless you are active in ministry, operating someplace with a high presence of occult believers. You've got to be all up in Satan's grill, leading the lost to Christ to attract that kind of demonic attention. So yeah, look for other explanations unless you fit that very narrow category.

If you're a Christian, the Holy Spirit dwells in you- and a demon sure as heck can't co-habit with evil in a person.

I've used this analogy before- but imagine you're a house. Pretty much anyone can live in you. But if you've invited Jesus in- the Holy Spirit has taken up residence. He is NOT going to let demons in to flat-share. If He can't keep them out- then He isn't the being we thought He was! Or maybe we didn't actually invite Him in in the first place.

That doesn't mean that we can't be hassled, though. Demons can still run up and ring your doorbell- throw rocks at your window, whisper or scream through the cracks and try to put rubbish through your letterbox, break bits of your trimming, cause some nasty damage. ... but they can't live in you.

Not knowing you personally, it's hard to say- but I think I'd definitely seek medical advice- even if just to get your joints looked at. I can't see how bits of your body moving in unnatural ways is a good thing- so I'd get examined if nothing else.

Are you in a church where you can speak to the pastor or a mature Christian who you trust?

do what Jesus did and tell it to shut up and get out. be careful what you put into your mind; if you focus on God's word you cannot suffer from demonic influence. that doesn't mean that you won't have to fight off the devil's attempts to destroy you through thoughts; it means that you will win the battles.

2Co 10:3-6 KJV
(3) For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
(4) (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
(5) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
(6) And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

I'm petrified in not knowing what I just experienced and the only conclusion I can come to is possession. But... I thought that was impossible for a believer in Christ.

It is impossible. God's Spirit dwells within every one of His children. There is no room for demons. The two -the Holy Spirit and the demonic - are anathema to each other; they cannot dwell together. You can be sure no demon, not Satan himself, is able to oust the Holy Spirit from a believer. So, there is no possibility a genuinely saved person can be possessed by demons.

A believer, however, can be oppressed by the demonic. When believers watch demonic things in movies and t.v., or play around with the occult (seances, ouija boards, palm reading, horoscopes, etc.), or obtain demonically-related items (pagan ritual masks, statues of false, pagan gods, ritual knives, jewellery, etc.), they open the door particularly wide for demonic influence in their lives. And demons are quite happy to oblige. They will crowd into a life that has opened to their destructive power. And when the person who has, however unwittingly, invited such demonic presence into their life begins to move toward God, well, the demonic agents naturally resist. When they do, all sorts of strange things can occur. My grandfather ran into this oppression of believers by the demonic many times in his 75 years of ministry as a pastor and evangelist. Some of his experiences were quite hair-raising!

Thankfully, the devil is a defeated foe. His power over believers was broken at the cross. Satan's demons cannot possess and force a child of God to serve them. But they can make life pretty awful if they are not dealt with directly in the name of Jesus. All occultic dabbling, and paraphenalia, and movies or literature must be cast out of the believer's life. Until they are, demonic oppression will not cease.

Should I seek medical advice?

Well, it wouldn't hurt to get a medical check-up. Sometimes hormones can go awry and provoke psychological issues, or vitamin and mineral deficiencies can do the same. Making sure these things are as they should be is always a good idea.

What I should I do? I have no idea what to do.

Have you, or someone close to you, been mucking about with the occult? Do you watch things like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or zombie movies, or straight-up demonic stuff like Evil Dead? Have you fooled around with seances or ouija boards? Ever had your palm read or been to a tarot card reader? If you have, you must renounce all involvment with such things and activities. Close all the doors to the demonic you may have opened. Get rid of any demonic thing in your possession (books, movies, music, games, etc). Get some spiritually-mature people together to pray over you. Claim the name of Jesus and the power of his blood over yourself and command in Jesus' name any evil spirits oppressing you to depart.

Selah.

Might be best not to read similar materials next time. Read the bible and continue reading.

Born again Christians have the Holy Spirit indwelling in their hearts. No one can shift the Spirit from that house (person).

And I would suggest for you to get rid of that book. And don't watch horror or ghost movies too.

That is just harmless TV my mum watches it and I watched the conjuring weeks ago and has have many Christians I know. It is not omething God said 'do not watch make believe TV' LOL ^_^ BUT he did say stay away from fortune telling, ouiji boards, contacting the dead, and anything to do with the occult.

Yes Christians can have demons and those demons can be triggered by reading or involving one's self in occultic materials.

I will have more to say on this subject shortly as I read thru this thread, but please educate yourself by reading this article: Christians and demons: Can a believer have a demon or evil spirit? Deliverance from demonic bondage in the lives of believers
... and if you have not received help as yet, please contact me privately. May Abba keep things suppressed till you receive the help you need.. amen.

You and your mom are blessed to not be affected by watching such things, but others who are much more spiritually sensitive will be affected.
Phil 4:8 says "whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things"
I know many believers who have ended up being tormented after reading horror books, watching horror movies, or playing around with seemingly "harmless" occult stuff. It is not ok to mess with darkness and expect to not be affected, and anyone who does so is being affected to some degree whether they recognize it or not.

Anxiety can create very dark physical manifestations. Demonic? I don't know. That doesn't make sense given the nature of God. What makes more sense is how we can create these dark intrusions while the devil barely lifts a finger.

Wow, astute. Smart people have said things . . . listening is good. ZNR gave ya the goodies.

I'll say it again & well. . . I am qualified to speak on the issue. Demons can mess your day up in ways that well, if ya don't win . . . I am guessing aren't as shiny as when you win. I got winning story, no playing. Won't say it didn't take a couple years healing up from the scrap, but then . .. I wasn't playing the entry level market.

We are body soul and spirit. When the Holy Spirit indwells us, He occupies our spirit and regenerates it. Our soul is not regenerated which is why we have to go through the process of sanctification. We can develop what is known as strongholds, which are places of demonic influence and control, and these are in the soul. That is why it is possible for a demon to be inside of a believer at the same time the Holy Spirit is indwelling us. Demons can occupy these strongholds and they can torment Christians from the inside. This is why the scripture says not to give any place to the devil because he will occupy that area until he is forced to leave.

Satan cannot fully possess you but he can torment you to a large extent. You can read about that in the parable of the unforgiving servant, where God punishes the servant by giving him over to the "tormenters".

Matthew 18:21-35 NIV - The Parable of the Unmerciful Servant - Bible Gateway

Satan can torment you physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, or all off the above. What opens the door to him mostly is our sin. We tend to think sin is no big deal but it is always opening the door to the demonic realm and bringing us into deception. This is why so many Christians live spiritually defeated lives, because they are unaware of the spiritual warfare going on in their own minds and bodies due to sin.

The word of God says that if we regard iniquity in our hearts, the Lord will not hear us. The word of God also says that He honors His word above His name. What I am saying is, if the Lord heard you while you were regarding iniquity in your heart, it would make Him a liar and His word untrue. He has to honor His word and therefore when we make room for sin in our lives our fellowship with God will be broken.

So, what do you do? First, I would pray to the Lord and ask Him to deliver you and to reveal to you anything which is giving the demons permission to be there. Repent of whatever the Lord reveals to you, and then command the demons to leave. Say something like.. unclean spirits, I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of me immediately!

If they won't leave, fast and pray and seek the Lord and then try it again. I am sure everyone in this thread is praying for you. If you need further help, please message me because I know a few deliverance ministers. God bless.

I never believed Christians could be possessed by demons, until a woman going to bible school a credit away from her doctorate - started to manifest.

All the 'pastors' and 'leaders' either pushed her away, because they believed christians can't have demons - so they tried to ignore her.

Others saw her manifesting, and ran away from her.
She was a small lady, very intellectual a student of the bible and a follower of JESUS.
So, she came to our group who promised we (actually YESHUA/JESUS in us) would help her.

It took about 3 hours but we were commanding the devils to leave and go into the abyss.

It was creepy.
It was real.
She got super strong! (while manifesting)
Her face and body would contort into strange shapes - impossible positions. (I still have them in my mind, hideous)
The 'voices' (demons) speaking were so varied and violent, they made your hair stand up.

But they CANT beat JESUS!!!!

We (in JESUS nature/by faith) commanded them to NOT SPEAK.
Then they said they were going to 'throw up all over us', and so we commanded "YOU WILL NOT THROW UP" and although she tried (it tried in her) she could not.

Then one by one we commanded them out, ordering them NOT to speak.
Slowly she was being set free - as we were kicking them out by our commands, with shrieks, complaints and howls each time.
(They hate faith, They hate un-conditional love, They hate GRACE, They hate JESUS, They hate us).

But what can he (devil) do about it? NOTHING!

One was trying to speak, trying to pronounce a murderous curse on me.
Out of me instantly was this: "SHUT UP AND COME OUT OF HER" and it did!

Satan has been stripped of his power, by JESUS on the cross. Read Colossians 2 (especially vs 15) http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Colossians%202:%206-15&version=NIV

So he has lost his authority and power - all of it belongs to JESUS "All Authority is MINE" JESUS said. (Matthew 28:18) We are now included in JESUS, we are HIM with feet and hands -so we have HIS authority and power...just believe it, just trust it (even though you can't see it).

So the devil's only chance is to trick us into giving into him and allowing him to use our own power and authority against us!
Sadly we do.

The major cause of demons in christians is through the religious legalism that is found in many churches. (I've seen this many many times)

Lastly, it is feeding on JESUS and un-conditional love and grace that will break the yoke of bondage and fear. What if you started to really believe that GOD loves you no matter what (on good days and the worst days!). What if HE (GOD) had all your (and mine) sins forgiven past, present and future? That is what HE has done...that is abundant life and amazing grace.

If your idea of christianity is not giving you thoughts and results of abundant life and amazing grace - then you've got to get closer to JESUS and feed on that more! That will break the yoke!

In that day their burden will be lifted from your shoulders, their yoke from your neck; the yoke will be broken because you have grown so fat. Isaiah 10:27

No yoke can stay around an animals neck when he gets big and strong can it?
That is the idea about 'fat' here - strong and big destroying the legalistic church traditions and doctrines of demons and all the lies you were fed.

I agree with you about the ouiji boards, tarot card reading, occult but watching buffy? and horror films is hardly inviting demons in.

I couldn't disagree more! What do vampires and demons have to do with the holiness and love of Christ? What does the terror and often grisly death of horror movies have to do with Jesus who is the Life and who comes to give us life and peace? We are his followers - Christians - and God has called us to be like him. How is this accomplished as one sits in front of the t.v. drinking in the violence, and witchery and demonic characters that are the heart of the Buffy series? Buffy is full of the occult, the demonic, and the horrific! That you don't see this suggests how comfortable you've become with what is evil. There is nothing of the beauty, and gentleness, and godly love of our Saviour in the Buffy series. What's more, it's writer, Joss Whedon, has publicly confessed an abiding hatred of the notion of God and of Christianity!

Do not scare people.

Quite frankly, you ought to be scared. The devil has numbed you so thoroughly to his evil you're trying to defend it! He is the "roaring lion walking about seeking whom he may devour" but you're treating shows that make no pretense of being demonic and occultic as though they're perfectly safe. You're headed into the darkness and you don't seem to have any idea that you are! I think that's very scary! The roaring lion waits in the darkness to devour you.

That is just harmless TV my mum watches it and I watched the conjuring weeks ago and has have many Christians I know.

None of what you just wrote here justifies what you've been watching. The Bible, God's Word, says very plainly,

Ephesians 5:8-12
8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light
9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth),
10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.
11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.
12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.

It is not omething God said 'do not watch make believe TV' LOL ^_^

I don't think demons are make believe. In any case, there are many things God has not told us to do but which are clearly condemned in principle in the Bible. No where does the Bible explicitly condemn pedophilia but you can certainly find a biblical principle that does. The Bible does not specifically condemn drug addiction but you can see it condemned in principle in Scripture. And the Bible doesn't say, "Don't watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer," but it does say,

Philippians 4:8 (NKJV)
8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--think on these things.

BUT he did say stay away from fortune telling, ouiji boards, contacting the dead, and anything to do with the occult.

Oh? I don't think ouija boards are ever mentioned in Scripture...Nonetheless, they ought, on principle, to be included in occult things that believers avoid - just like horror movies and demonic t.v. series.

Selah.
