Very true. I just know this guy who is very sweet who is considering going out with me and he's 19. It'd be an online relationship though cause he lives in Nevada and I in Indiana. He's so sweet though. I like him a lot. Anyway, my Mom's husband (my step-dad) is like 15 years younger than her.

I'd say just make sure to take into account his maturity level and yours - coming from eperiance, they can be sweet charming but the maturity factor can be a down side to it...but it's not that it's weird or anything...

Assuming your maturity levels are similar, I would be far more concerned about the distance than about the age difference.

Definitely meet in person before you decide to date.

I would advize you to be careful due to the fact that this is an online relationship...but no I dont think that there is anything abnormal about a 23 yr old femail dating a 19 yr old male. my bf is younger than i am by a year

Thanks everyone. I may eventually meet him in person but I think meeting him in person before we date is a little out of the question. I won't be able to travel that far for at least a good year or two and we already are in love.

I was 22 and my fiance 18 when we started dating. We're now 25 and 21 and getting married in 2 months. Just make sure you're at the same maturity level--my fiance did have a bit of growing up to do before I would marry him, but we're pretty caught up now--we graduated university about a year apart and it took him until he was done to really get to the same level of grown-up-ness that I had.

Then again, I wouldn't call it normal for a 20-year-old girl to date a 16-year-old guy... but once the younger person hits 18-19-20, provided the age gap isn't more than 3 or 4 years (at that point), it's not a bad thing at all

Age is really a number in relationships. Stage of life and maturity level is what you should be looking at.

I wouldn't do it, lol. I dated a guy who was my exact age and it was terrible. The guy I'm with now is 6 years older then me and it's better. There's a lot of factors to why, but maturity level is associted with age and that was probably the biggest factor.

But. It really depends from person to person and couple to couple.

Online dating. I did it with my first relationship. He was my boyfriend for 9 months before we met in person. (Would NEVER recommend it to anyone. You should get to know them in person before you date.)

It's an online thing. Basically you chat and get to know each other online. You can also talk on the phone and write each other. It's basically a long-distance relationship.

I think it's the other way around. And yes, I do respect him. I think I love the guy.

However, talking a lot will show you fatal flaws in him. I spent a lot of time talking with a guy (we did a 200000 word convo in msn...) and as i got to know him more, i couldn't stop thinking of him... Then we started getting frustrated with each other...

The biggest thing i found, when i forced myself to not talk to him as much, to deal with my feelings, i got over them. Keep in mind, we were talking 5-7 hours most days... You see it's gotta be so careful, and you SO have to meet.

I think the lower the age of the elder of the 2, the more uneasy I'd probably feel about it eg. if I were the parent of a 19 year old who said she was dating a 15 year old I'd be a bit more concerned than if she was 25 and dating a 21 year old. Mainly it's the maturity/stage of life issue - personally I think it's better if you and your S/O are at the same stage of life since it fosters better understanding of each other's situations and one can encourage the other more readily. But if you think you're both comfortable with taking such a step, then go for it. The distance issue is better suited to one of the other threads on the issue though, I think...and besides, you haveen't asked about it...
