Would humanity really be more noble if we had never endured such things? I for one am proud, not because they had to, but because they did. If humanity is worthy of anything, surely it's because of what we've endured, not in spite of it.
It is not enduring which makes us noble. That merely makes us alive.

Nobility comes as we seek to treat our fellows as we wish ourselves to be treated. This springs from our tendency to empathy which is one one of the bases for human advancement in the world. Quite simply, ... we do better when we love our neighbors as we love ourselves..

Nobility doesn't come from enduring Auschwitz, ... nobility is found in preventing Auschwitz ...

I agree with much of the sentiment of your post, but on this point I think you're wrong. I think nobility comes through struggle, whether it's the struggle to endure Auschwitz, or the struggle to prevent Auschwitz.

That would make all of life noble with no distinction.
