Because I think that's what I did. I haven't been to our Corps in a few weeks. I feel very bad about it because it was really just pure lazyness. Our CO called me last night to make sure everything was ok and I really appreciated that. I told her that I would be back on Sunday. I fully intend to.
I think I also felt kinda bad because I had asked to be put on the list for adherancy classes but I never got a call. I mentioned this to my CO and she got the ball rolling. The Sgt Mgr called and told me that he has put the classes on hold because someone who wants to take them is ill. I feel really bad about that. But I feel that I am being so selfish because I really want to get started on these classes so I can work my way up to being a Soldier. I guess that only 1 person isn't enough for a class. Well, at least I will be worshipping next Sunday!

Hands up anyone who has never been there.

No hands?

Thought so.:)

LOL
you don't have to be and adherent first to be a soldier you know.
It is so easy to get hurt and sit back and nurse our bad feelings, been there, done that, bought the T-shirt.
Some corps seem to prefer it that way. Not entirely sure why, mind you, but I'm sure they have some reason (would love to hear from anyone who knows, btw).

Not going to church can most definitely be a slippery slope to non-participation- so in that back-slidING implies action, I guess. But to be backslidden I have always thought is a whole lot more disatorous that just not showing up for a few weeks. Been there. Done that!

I never knew wheather to chase up someone whom has not shown up for a few weeks ( or a week even ) or not. There are easily too many distractions that can keep us from the path we know we should take.

I recall a lady of around 80 a few years back whom was enrolled as a soldier , when asked why she had waited until then she replied 'no one had every asked me if I wanted ( or felt called ) to be solider'

I think our officers/preachers in England today do not expect that their sermons can actually still be used by God to inspire individuals to change their lives , and think that it is up to events like 'Roots' to do their recruiting to solidership level for them. ( maybe not true as some use things like alpha courses as a way of both soliders and other persons to consider what being a christian is about ) . One still needs solidership classes ( or whatever they are called these days . Being in the Salvation Army is a bit like Christianity+ , with potentially high demands and expectations upon individuals , if you actually take what being a solider can be seriously

I just wanted to send you commiserations.

I've been in a similar spot since my marriage. We were going weeks at a time (even 2 months I think) without church - or 'one week there, 3 weeks not' kinda thing.

I don't know why (I wish I did), but I've really been struggling with the whole 'church subculture' idea at the moment - worried that it's too insular or something I think. I think that's been part of the reason I haven't found myself at church.

I am back now, and trying to be there every week - but I wanted to let you know you weren't alone in not getting to church every week...

God bless you honey!

That's basically what I did. I just got lazy those couple of Sunday mornings.

I wouldn't worry about the way you feel. It probably felt like you were being rejected in some way (even though you weren't), but it doesn't stop you from thinking that. Making the next step in becoming a soldier is quite a big commitment for anyone to make, not just for new people. Well done for making the step though.

As for having classes on your own, just to let you know that I had mine on my own (but then my dad took them!)
