well i know i want to stay completely sober.

My older sister and dad werent drunk or even tipsy wen they got into an argument that got out of hand last christmas they had just had a drink.
I dont like the effects of alcohol.

I stopped drinking completely a few months after turning 18 which is the legal drinking age here.
I want to be completely sober at all times so i can focus on God and i dont like the places were u generally have to go to drink.

I have only had alcohol content in cake (vanilla is 33% alcohol) and cooking wine. Bottom line:

It is not a sin to have a drink.

Remember who you are and who you are representing. You are bought with a price, no longer your own. If you get drunk, I see it as a very heinous paganistic sin, and an embarrasment to the kingdom of God, since you are an ambassador for Christ, and the Holy Spirit dwells in your heart.

My advice:

Don't even play around with the lock on the lion's cage. Don't flirt with something that can SERIOUSLY harm you. When you're drunk you're not just the victim, you're also the one harming yourself.

When cooking with alcohol, the alcohol evaporates from the heat. There's a negligible amount of alcohol in cake or cookies which may have vanilla in it. A recipe typically calls for a teaspoon or two to be added to the batter. By the time you get your slice of cake or couple of cookies, there's nothing there.

Now, the dose of Nyquil you take at bedtime is another story...

True story. I COMPLETELY understand and agree with you VOW, mark your calendar for this unprecedented date in history. lol

From what I'm aware of, the hydrogen bonds (I think they're hydrogen) connecting the hydroxyls are broken very easily by temperature changes. So there should be ABSOLUTELY nothing left of it after 400 degrees in the oven for 30 minutes.

I wasn't aware of the alcohol content of Nyquil, but it doesn't bother me. I'm a little scared and cautious about alcohol because both sides of my family have very strong addictions and tolerance to it.

And I'm aware of addiction and genetic connections; so I'm not even going to play around the lion's cage.

The Bible actually encourages those who are suffering to drink in order to forget their troubles. Proverbs 31:6-7.

On the other hand, the same book condemns drunkeness. Yet, as has been pointed out, the Bible neglects to define drunkeness in 20th century terms. But it does admonish us that "quarrels about words...result in envy, strife, malicious talk and evil suspicicions." (1 Tim 6:4) "It is of no value, and only ruins those who listen." (2 Tim 2:14)

If one loses self-control, one is drunk and has forsaken a fruit of the Spirit. If you lose control after one sip of "today's wine" then perhaps it is best you do not drink. I commend you on your conviction. If one can drink two pints and be completely self-controlled, filled with love, peace and kindness, then I commend them on their faith.

As for the "lock no the lions cage," should we apply that to say, the internet? cars? television? radio? french fries? air in Los Angeles? stepping outside? staying inside?

The drinking age is what could be called an "unjust law," or a law specifically designed to oppress a certain group of people, in this case, young people.

And drinking is not a sin. Neither is getting "drunk" (well, it depends on how drunk). Alcohol was given us as a pleasure to enjoy, but respectfully and responsibly. If I go to a party and drink until I'm throwing up all over the place and dancing naked on the pool table, yes then it's a sin. But if I drink just enough to elevate my mood, don't lose control, and have a lot of fun at the party, how is that a sin?

Alcohol and drugs do not "control" the user.  That is an excuse made up by the users in an attempt to justify behavior.  Responsible users of drugs and alcohol simply use it to alter their mood and to feel good temporarily, and to relieve stress.  It is not a sin.  I think what the bible was talking about when it talked about drunkenness was that drunkenness can lead to sin, so it should be treated responsibly.  I don't think intoxication is a sin in and of itself, though.

Jesus turned water into wine, and gave it to people who I believe were drunk.
In the old testiment, it says to enjoy your wine and strong drink with a merry heart.
You can also find in Ruth (I think it's Ruth) where a king's heart "merry with wine".

Ephesians 5:18 says: "And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit"

This does not state that to be drunk with wine is a sin.&nbsp; It is simply a warning against excesses.&nbsp; Jesus never said anything about getting drunk.

having lowered inhibitions is not a sin, but what you do while your inhibitions are lowered.&nbsp; Not all talk is gossip.&nbsp; In all, being tipsy is not a sin, the sin is what you do while you are tipsy.

If getting drunk was a sin, then why does God say to enjoy your wine and strong drink with a merry heart?

Why does it also say to pay your tithes so that your barns maybe full, and your vats full of wine?

There are alot of verses that go either way, so you have to make them balance somehow or else its a contradiction.

Alcohol is like a computer, it can be used for good, and evil.

If it was so bad, Jesus wouldn't have talked about it at all.

What would you define being drunk? How much do you need to drink to get drunk.
