...I really shouldn't stick my oar in, but I must ask - wouldn't that same logic mean that I couldn't join the Boy Scouts or a fraternity and be a Christian? Or any club or organization for that matter? 'Initiation' is kind of a broad term, it can literally apply to joining any group.

That would be a logical extreme.
'Freemasonry' isn't a broad term and it happens to be both the topic and context of the remark.
Experience with real conversation will familiarize most of us with logical extremes and violations of context.

that verse is describing the pagan mystery schools and religions where religious doctrines and worship are only reserved for initiates that take secret oaths and passwords

I think the hand shake is when they only hold eachother's fingers rather than the whole hand including the palms.
For the rest i'm not sure.
Yeah, you have the index finger and the pink pointing up thing, but that's not exclusively masonic.

But not bizarre to believe that what a person professes to be is what he actually is or that because he says he is, he uniformly believes what you believe he believes.

The difficulty in one of any group to represent the whole accurately is a blind spot for the lower degrees not initiated into the 'higher truths'.

Boy, isn't that the truth. You can google this stuff and find whole websites dedicated to the supposed secret Masonic handshakes and signs...and find nothing but pictures of ordinary handshakes.

It's kind of like the recent hub-bub over the supposed white supremacist hand signal, which was alleged to be to hold the forefinger and thumb in an occultish circle while spreading the other three fingers, mysteriously enough, in a sign of three. In other words, the sign all sorts of NBA basketball players of any race use when they've made a three-point basket.

I think you are going to have to be a lot more specific than that. I find nothing in the gospels to oppose Masonic membership.
