  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is evolution a religion?

I said put to death. I was being somewhat facetious but then again there is a germ of truth to it. And you are the last person to refer to someone else as ignorant.
My friend you can attack my knowledge on science because i have admitted the ignorance therein, however to place that ignorance in an overall fashion is very insulting, and just because you change "put" to "out", does not change the fact you are giving religion a false definition, which asks me the question, how could anything you say be true and not deceptive

It was obviously facetious. But then it is funny precisely because there is a germ of truth to it.

there is absolutely no truth to it, the death of thousands due to their faith in God is funny? Are you a christian? These people are persecuted for standing up for God. there is no humer in such a thing. Even id they were worshiping a false God, the death of Man isnt funny

Now you commented about the word ignorance and then you say this.

Go back and read my initial comment on this. You will see that you have characterised it the wrong way.

GO BACK AND READ IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me jump in here. All measurements are approximations.
Ok, this is important so I will say it again. ALL measurements are just approximations.

We can never know anything exactly, there's always space for another digit to the right of the decimal point.

However, that does not mean that just because we can not measure anything exactly, therefore it automatically follows that we know nothing about the thing we are measuring.

Example: Go into your bathroom and weigh yourself 10 times. You will probably get 6 or 7 different readings (if you own a typical cheap bathroom scale).
2 issues:

First: NONE of those weighings are your actual weight. Your actual weight may be (just making up a number) 135.23957357195862950 lbs., but your never going to see that number in it's full precision. All you'll see is 135.2. But that number is good enough to tell you whether you put on a few Lbs over the holidays. You don't need to see 20 significant figures to know it's time to lay off the sweets.;)

Second: There is an inherent variability in all measurements. That why multiple measurements are made. By using appropriate statistical techniques one can obtain an estimate of the thing we are measuring and define a confidence interval for that measurement (i.e. How good are our measurement techniques).

As KM said and now I am saying...It Ain't perfect but it is good enough. Any questions ... I'm willing to explain in more detail if you want.

Are you a christian?

Never fails on this board. Someone with evidently no experience of the world outside some cloistered little corner of US Protestantism I'd guess has to throw out the "are you a Christian" card.

Sad. (and something in the CF rules I believe about this)

He was talking about people killing in the name of religion, not dying for their faith.

Exactly.

Geez - I thought it was pretty clear cut what I meant. On top of that it was tongue in cheek with a germ of truth attached.

simplyg123 - I just shake my head at some off the things you fail to follow.

Well the fact you find humor in the persecution of others, calls for a question of faith in my opinion, if you were offended i believe its probably your guilty conscience, however i apologize fully

READ WHAT I TYPED. See Melethiel's post above as well. I'm never offended - just amazed at the silliness.

You just failed to read my post properly.

Supernatural powers, OR powers (which are not supernatural)
I think you are parsing the sentence incorrectly. The structure is "a supernatural power or powers" "that determine the destiny of man". There is no indicator that the "or" separates distinct clauses.
