I recently attendind the Twin Cities Festival in St. Paul, Minnesota. It was a festival orchestrated by ministry of Luis Palau, featuring a skate park, sports zone, kids play area and Christian Rock. I would have to say that I felt that God brought it all together and 200,000 people showed up over the two days, praise the Lord! They got to hear the Word of God! All of these things helped bring Christians and non-Christians out to the state capitol, where they joined in song, prayer, the reading of God's Holy Word and the message of truth. It would be wrong of me to say that the music didn't play a part in the success of the festival, it certainly did. To hear the name of our Holy and awesome God being praised by a couple hundred thousand people was humbling to say the least.

We were made to worship God. There are a lot of ways to do that and a big one is music. Of course we are going to want to create music to honor our Creator, our SAVIOR! He gave us Life! And then offered us eternal life as a gift! Praise the LORD!

When we joined in song, the Spirit of God showed up in a powerful way, as it often can and will. I will not deny or refuse what God wants to do with people and how He wants to use them for His purpose. I will also not prohibit in any way how a person chooses to bring God glory, or worship Him, as long as it is for God's glory.

I understand that not all of the muisic under the label of "Christian Music" is good. Nothing is good, as Jesus has said. No one is good, no, not one. None of us are worthy. None. But God allows us into His presence thru Jesus Christ our Lord and gives us the opportunity to praise and worship Him in song and in our lives.

It would be against our Christian beliefs to attack music that is used to bring glory to God. We can choose what we should listen to (musically) by listening to God's Spirit and what His will for our lives is. We should use a filter in what we listen to in music and also several other things that can enter our minds, bodies and hearts.

Please, let us not divide over this issue. I pray that God will reveal to us in an awesome way His will for all of us in music and in life. Thank you for listening and God bless.

I appreciate the report and the spirit in which it was given. :)

I don't think we're separating over the issue. Remember, I play a lot of the praise and worship stuff as part of our praise band... even if I think much of it is vacuous. ;)

You know, for a guy with such strong opinions, I put up with a lot of stuff at my local SBC that I don't particularly agree with... I am SO tolerant* !! :holy:

i have a friend who interviews christian rock bands.

Hey, get him to interview me... I promise I'll give him some stuff that will jump off the page. ;) If you don't believe... just stick around here or the CCM board!

If you want a free promo CD, just PM me (that goes for anybody, btw).

Samples are also available at my web site, but there are only a few short mp3 samples of a few songs... I can't list the link (house rules) but it's listed on my profile. There is one above (click on the little speaker icon)... I was going for a sort of Christian/Pink Floyd/John Lennon/William Tyndale thing on that song... I know, kinda odd...

Hey Bleechers, is that a young picture of a guy (on the left) I know on your site, with hair? I run into him often playing at the same coffee houses. While we are at it we have some short samples on my site.

your samples are very good. Do I know the guitar player?

Back to your regularly scheduled thread.

He's a great guitar player with or without hair (and an even greater Christian brother!).

I heartily endorse his CD! Solid Christian lyrics and excellent production. The musicianship is great. I'm sure you know, he's an ex-[censored] too. ;)

Mary and the Thief is a tremendous song.

He's says very nice things about your bass-playing... for which I have not yet forgiven him. :sigh:

Petra was the beginning of me coming to CHRIST. As of right now they are still my fav. Because you see the Love of GOD in their live show ministry, and their music. I also love the music of Mercy Me, Michael W. Smith, Avalon and many others. now there are groups out there like POD I am not sure of. they seem to secular. But the others I mentioned keep preaching the Truth, That is JESUS.

Hi guys,

Now I havent read all the pages here. I just dont have the time right now, lol. with 4 kids, who could blame me. But I wanted to give a quick thought on this subject.

Christian Rock can vary, personally. I dont like the heavy stuff, you cant understand the lyrics. but the regular rock stuff. That i like. With my kids, I am fighting the secular world of Brittany Spears, Christine Aguillara, and such like that. It is a hard fight. They like the beat of the music. With Christian Rock, they still get the beat the kids want, and they get GREAT lyrics. So to me, this is great. Hyms are wonderful, and gospel is awesome. But lets be honest, we cant listen to it all the time. Maybe as adults we can, but kids get bored and they will change the station.

So in my place, I let in the Christian Rock, (approved of course. I have to listen to it first), and my kids spread ti that way. They spread the Word with their mouths also, but they are taking in good stuff, so good stuff will go out.

I just bought a workout CD for my water aerobics class. It was a CD that had classic hymns on them but with a upbeat sound.
It was the most horrid thing I had ever heard. I am serious.
The song "oh how I love Jesus"
was really fast...........It said........Oh how I love Jesus (here we go) Oh How I love Jesus (yes Jesus yes Jesus). It was terrible.
Since I got that CD, I am going to have to disagree that the beat does matter. It can completley ruin the song.
This is just my opninion of couse.
I took back the CD.

I understand what you are saying Gel, and I didnt mean with classic hymns. that would be really hard to change what should have been.

My question to you, and this is not an attack, is do you have any kids? I have 4 kids, 11, 10, 5 1/2, and 3. My 11, and 10 yr old, want the beat (not heavy metal or anything), but they like KJ52. It is a neat CD. Great beat, great words. That I dont have a problem wiht. They are a group that is making new songs, and making sure that they are lyrically (is that even a word, lol) good, and musically good for kids. So that kids will be interested, and get the message there. Does that make sense?

Honestly if we think about it, if Christian rock was to be eliminated, these are just some of the bands we would say bye-bye too.

Third Day
Jeremy Camp
Seventh Day Slumber (12,000 already saved through their ministry)
Audio Adrenaline
Newsboys
Kutless

And this is to name a very small few. But I mean look at the ministry all these bands are taking part in. All of those bands are Christian rock and it is definitely Christ like. If Christian rock were to vanish, then the only alternative would be for people who like rock to listen to secular bands who have no message at all.

It seems that alot of people's problems with Christian rock is the music and not the words. If someone doesn't like the music then of course that's ok because we all have our own tastes, but I just don't think we should classify all Christian rock as bad, since I know many Christian rock groups who uplift the Lord with their music. I mean I abhor classical hymns, not for the words but for the mind numbingly boring music, but I still think they serve a purpose, because there are those who get blessed by this music as I get blessed by Christian rock.
