I am a Ex-Athist, I use to belive that religon was like something like the tooth fairy, but over time I change my views. During my days as a athist I clamed I was apart of no Religon but now that I am thinking back, was I? I mean it is a set of belifes about the world and since most athist belive in Evlotion it alwso a belife in how the world was created, like most religons. So do the Athist count as a Religon or not?

They act like it is a religion... I think it's better to say "Atheism" for the people who are against the idea of God and religion as a principle and "non-religious" for people who are just indifferent and don't believe...

I'm not sure about "athistiam", but atheism isn't a religion.

You could do that, but that would be incorrect. A-theism: not a theist. Someone who, for whatever reason, doesn't believe in a deity. There are atheistic religions.

It is 'atheism'. And no, it is not a religion. It is not even a world view.

Atheism can be part of a world view: secular humanism is an atheistic world view.

Atheism can be part of a religion: some types of Buddhism are atheistic religions.

Theism is not a religion, either. Nor is it a world view.

Theism can be part of a world view or a religion: Christianity is a theistic world view and a religion.

To be honest, I've never been an atheist at any time in my life, so I can't say for certain. My unqualified opinion is that atheism isn't necessarily a religion. But there are many atheists out there who turn their atheism into a religion. If you want to see religious atheism, look no further than www.infidels.org.

No, atheism is not a religion.

You mention belief in evolution, but belief in evolution is not atheism, nor does it strike me as enough to count as a religion by itself.

What do you mean by religious atheism? If you mean they are fervent in their views, that doesn't strike me as enough to say that something is a religion. Religion isn't essentially about this.

Some people include it among religions; some don't. It's hard to classify. It's like taking a survey that asks you what kind of cigarette you smoke. There will be an option that says "don't smoke"...but that's not really a kind of cigarette is it?

Regardless, it doesn't really matter to me as long as people understand we're not theists.

RELIGION = Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe. dictionary.com

According to this description, atheism is an ANTI-religion as it teaches humans not to believe in a supernatural power as a creator. Wont u agree. The idea of atheism goes against all the religions in the world.

Atheism is non-theistic and runs counter to religious thought. I'll agree as far as that.

I'm not so sure it goes against ALL religions, unless Buddhism does not count as a religion. Buddhism does not advocate belief in a supernatural power that is regarded as a creator and governor of the universe.

i suspect it has something to do with the creation of threads like this. calling them something they are not, they would naturally feel inclined to explain what they are.

Why do some Christians have this pathological obsession about letting everyone know how much Jesus loves them?

They're proud of what they believe in, as they should be.
