From what I read on Galileo it's wasn't his theory of heliocentrism that was offensive as much as it was his arrogant spirit. After his death , heliocentrism was the normal (including in the church) even without hard evidence to support it.Eluzai said:Heliocentrism was only briefly a problem and only because Tycho Brahe's data (decades of it) pointed to the sun going round the earth. Galileo just didnt have enough data at the time he confronted the establishment... if he'd have waited for data at least he would have the scientists behind him instead of no one... then when it was too late they got the data.
This is the same with christians , sometimes it's not the message that is offensive as much as it's our spirit toward others.
