People, this game is AMAZING.

Sure, it's not dark, realistic, gritty, or any of those things. But it is beautiful, crazy, super polished, abstract and hyper-imaginative. I haven't been blown away by a game like this in years. I'm only like seven stars in, but in those seven stars I've seen more imaginative gameplay twists and turns than most games have in their entirety. It's got a fully orchestral soundtrack to boot, too (apart from the old NES and SNES tunes, which are brilliant electronic chip-tune remixes.)

It's like the bizarre 2D marios mixed with Mario 64, but better. And I've been slating the Wii on forums! This makes a Wii worth buying. I feel like I'm nine years old playing LBA2 again.

Just be careful you don't get it when you're meant to be writing an essay. I think I'm going to fail 20% of my marks because of this damn game.

Mario is a 1 dimensional character who just repeats himself over and over, and he is like every game nintendo makes.

adding luigi as a playable character doesn't help either.

Mario games aren't about storyline or characterization. They're about pure abstract gaming bliss. Sure, every game so far has involved the Princess being kidnapped and you being needed to save her, but that's just an excuse, a springboard for crazy platforming and surreal twists and turns through various worlds. I do like adventure games with deeper characters and interesting storylines too, but there are times when you just want some fun platforming action unhindered by the constraints of a consitent, realistic location, and Mario offers that.

This new one is also quite different from previous Mario games while still retaining their wacky cuteness and immediacy. The spherical and gravitational elements add a lot to the genre.

my thought is that they need to stop making any game with mario. He is 25 years old and some one needs to put him to sleep.

Ah, so because a game character is old and his games focus on level-exploration and puzzle solving rather than current-day obsession with shoot-em-ups, then the gaming world should just somehow believe that he has no place on consoles anymore?

No offense intended, but that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. If you think Mario games are repetitive, don't play them, but that doesn't mean that it should be taken off the market. Mario Galaxy has been out for less than a month and has already sold over half a million copies. Sounds to me like there's still plenty of interest in it, so why should they stop making it just because you don't like it?

Haha - if that logic worked, first person shooters would be taken off the market because I'm tired of them. ^_^

As for Mario Galaxy, I bought it yesterday, and though I'm having a little trouble adjusting to the unique gravity and perspective changes, I am very much enjoying it.

Exactly. Deep stories have never worked well with Mario because - let's face it - a deep storyline where an italian plumber has to rescue a pretty princess from a giant turtle-dragon-thing and angry walking mushrooms and duck-turtles just wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. Mario has always been about entertaining gameplay through interesting level design and unique puzzles, and that's what Nintendo has always delivered.

I'm 27 years old and I love Mario. You're only as old as you allow yourself to be.

Twilight Princess is not hard at all. In my opinion it was too easy. :/
