  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have heard better excuses for someone killing their spouse. I have two great kids. My wife and I do not want any more children. It would be difficult financially but that is no reason to kill.

Your right it is his body to get sterilized. The same way as it is the womens body to decide to have a tubal ligation. It is not the womans body when she kills the child growing inside her.

Yes but the baby is in her body so therefore she does have the right to demand it;s removal.

Yes the above reasons aren;t the best especially if they are the only reasons someone would get an abortion. But I think often times the reasons we see are not the only reasons people have.

Just like a 1 year old living in the mother's house... she has the right to demand it's removal.

The difference is that when you remove it from the womb you effectively kill the baby.

Living in the same house is quite a bit different from living in and directly off someones body.

Exactly my point. The baby in the womb is fully dependent on the mother and without the mother's womb it will die. So, this is murder because it is through the actions of the mother who is with full knowledge that the baby will die if removed.

I don't believe that we "own" our bodies...everything belongs to God. We are not our own. So we don't have the right to abort babies, just like we don't have the right to kill ourselves...that's why these things are considered sinful. Sure God can forgive, but as Christians we should remember that the Holy Spirit lives within us...we are His temple.

This is a reading from today that I think fits this threads topic and it is from the Gospel of Luke chapter 17.

Jesus said to his disciples,
“Things that cause sin will inevitably occur,
but woe to the one through whom they occur.
It would be better for him if a millstone were put around his neck
and he be thrown into the sea
than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin.
Be on your guard!
If your brother sins, rebuke him;
and if he repents, forgive him.
And if he wrongs you seven times in one day
and returns to you seven times saying, ‘I am sorry,’
you should forgive him.”

Well they do concentrate on providing available alternatives and preventing unwanted pregnancies but it gets rejected. ABC is one example to prevent both unwanted pregancies and AIDS, but when it is proposed by Bill Gates it gets 'booed out'. But the Christian teaching is God's purpose is for faithful marriage between and woman where pregancies are wanted. The problem is sex. Societies are slaves to the god of sex.
In the first case the A of ABC, abstinence is the only 100% sure way of avoiding AIDS or an unwanted pregnancy yet its the only one people object to and is rarely on the agenda; do people really care about these things.
Abrotion is terminating a life, there is no question about it.

Well I donlt think it;s abstinence that gets booed out so much as abstienence ONLY education. I do think abstienence needs to be taught in schools probably a lot stronger then it is now. But it needs to be taught along side teaching people about how our reproductive systems work and alongside other methods of birth control. Really though I think if prolife people and prochoice people worked together to bring not only better sex education to schools but cheaper contrapceptives and more support for scared pregnant women then I think the abortion rate would go way down.

Yes I agree but thats basically part of ABC isnt it? In the examples I gave it was the A as part of the ABC that gets 'booed out' I know when I proposed ABC the objections are all A and B, no-one suggests C isnt any use.

Yes definately. But the A and the B is crucial

what's funny?

You are right that there are still going to be times to where an abortion will happen even if no one ever seeks it out again. I just got a laugh out of it. Silly me... :D

no, they wouldn't. there are still ectopic pregnancies, health problems, etc. but they would certainly be greatly reduced.

Well not to mention married couples can still have major money problems. Married couples can still really really not want another kid or any kids at all period. Basically being married does help a lot and I think if everyone didn;t have sex before marriage it would reduce the rates by a lot ..but abortion will never cease to exist completely.

There will always be people seeking out abortions though. Has been for probably thousands of years. Now maybe it would be a rare thing..but still.
