• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I had IBS for about a year. It was excruciating. Sometimes I'd just double up in bed or on the floor and cry. The only things that would settle it down were boiled hamburger and half n half LOL. I still have trouble off and on but the pain is gone. I never thought it would end, but in time it faded and left. I wish this for you. And may God ease your discomfort.:crossrc::hug:

How awful for you. So glad you were delivered from that agony. That is wild that boiled hamburger and half and half helped. Wow! Did you have to have the two combined or either one would help?

I remember it took about two months until I got my diagnosis..and they thought I had IBS..but it turned out it was Inflammatory (IBD) instead..I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease..I went to three different hospitals and then finally UW Medical Center determined it. ..being an autoimmune disease it runs a vicious cycle. I think I have finally managed to put it into remission..it took MONTHS (about 3) on a vigorous regiment of prednisone until I tapered off of it finally to calm it down..I have had very little cramps..but i'm not gonna hold my breath..as to not jinx myself..Flares can come back as quick as they cease to be. It can be a horrible disease if you don't take care of yourself to a T.

I got diagnosed with IBS when I was 12. Somewhere back in the late 60s. Only thing I could do at that time was learn to deal with it.

There were some silly things that I've learned to do. I try to pay attention to where bathrooms are when I drive. I don't eat or drink anything (especially coffee) while on the road...unless a bathroom is near. I figured out I was lactose intolerant by the time I was in my late 20s so I have stopped eating any milk product that bothers me. I can eat yogurt and cheese just fine. Occasionally I can have cream cheese. I seriously limit sour cream and cottage cheese. This has helped a good bit. I intentionally ate and drank things that kept me going because it was better than the alternative which caused me the most extended pain. More recently I went on Miralax every night and that has helped a lot as well. Theoretically this isn't habit forming and does no damage or so I've been told. So some of the solution, at least for me, was planning, dietary changes, relaxing, knowing my body and figuring out the 'signs' and as mentioned, the Miralax.

Good luck with this.
