  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Have you ever thought to yourself (or even said to yourself), 'you will be *darned* if you do not do something?'

For example, I was playing a video game and then the thought popped up, 'if you don't get a silver medal in this game, you will be *darned*'. Then you really don't get a silver medal.....

You try to counter that and say 'if you get a silver or gold medal, you will not be darned', but then you get a platinum medal. If you say stuff like this, will you be *darned*?

It's just an expression.. Things like that have power because you allow them to have power over you. You can "Darn" yourself to hell, and not be a resident there unless you believe in that self full filling curse, and start altering your behavior and beliefs to put yourself there..
Otherwise you have very little say or power in God's ability to "darn" people.

This is not a guitarintro peculiarity! It is common to all of us.
The only way to escape these intrusive thoughts is to train your mind on good things, iow, immediately seek to replace the bad with good - this calls for *gasp* discipline, and takes a long time, and even then you might not have the power to stop them.
One way I try to get rid of these thoughts is to have a repertoire of good things to think about when such situations arise. These might include scripture verses, spiritual songs and probably most effective of all, remembering that Jesus is with you, and intercedes for you when you do stuff up! :)
Blessings.

I have had those thoughts, but I believe they are just the product of my how my brain works and the influence of the world and the spiritual forces.

Good News!!

Christ renews our minds. Dwell on the Word of God (not obsessively/compulsively) and allow God to give you His peace.

Mate, when we become born-again, we are no longer conformed to the world, and we endeavour to transform and renew our carnal and spiritual minds (our brain and our heart). What sort of video games do you indulge in? There are many medals that we can receive as we race our run of endrances down the narrow path. No doubt the voice you heard wasn't the Holy Spirit.

I get some terrible thoughts sometimes while sitting in church, and you shake you head thinking: "Where in the world did that come from?"

There are many good books out there, on how to re-train yourself.
One good one that comes to mind is the Feeling Good Handbook.

BTW, your salvation is more permanent that words that your brain/psyche/others say or think. Rock on in confidence that the Lord bought you.

Amen. Our salvation is more permanent than words from our brain.

I am a recovering OCD victim, so sometimes these thoughts freak me out. Of course, as time progress, there are thoughts I move on easier, while others I tend to dwell on. Regardless, our salvation is not based on some intrusive thought. God is in control of our lives.

I have found in my experience that usually when I hear accusations or impure thoughts or strange challenges as mentioned, they are usually in third person. It always starts with you, you, you. So, I ask God to shut the demons up in the name of Jesus Christ and make them go away. This works most of the time. Not all things you hear in your head are you, sometimes it's demons trying to distract you, tempt you, or to try to get you to worry. Rebuke them. The Bible says resist the devil and he will flee.

I used to think this same way but differrent. Mine was if I didnt exceed in my life would something happen to my family or something like that you know. well i can confidently say to you that our God is one of love and wants you to live a life of abundance. you are everything to Him. His craftmanship, his love, and his life. dont let bondages like this take hold of you. you are not going to be "darned" as long as you believe that Jesus is the one true son of God and ask Him into your life. Ask the Lord to begin to open your eyes to who He truly is and His true nature. These fears that grasp you are purely bondages that must be broken. we dont have to fear that. Our God wants the ultimate best for our lives.:sorry:

You have the exact same, word for word, struggles I had -- and still have to deal with from time to time. I'm praying for you, keep your eyes on God and there is freedom.

Hang in there man...it will get better. God has really brought me a long ways in those thoughts. Our God loves us and the last thing He is thinking toward you is the bad.

What you're describing is probably obsessive-compulsive disorder/scrupulosity. You're in good company. John Bunyan had it, and a LOT of other people. If the thoughts become bothersome-- as in, you worry about them and they distress you and you can't seem to shake them-- try joining The Scrupe Group, which is a yahoogroup. Unwilling "blasphemous" thoughts are a CLASSIC Christians-with-OCD thing.
