I am relatively new to Christian Forums, and I am so pleased that there is a Reformed Forum. I believe that there is a lot that I can learn from the members of this forum. I was raised in the Assemblies of God church and graduated from one of their colleges. During my college years, I left the Assemblies because I did not think that the Baptism of the Holy Spirit was subsequent to salvation. In addition, I do not think that tongues is the initial evidence of the Baptism. I also developed doubts about Arminianism. In time, in searching Scripture and thinking hard, it became increasingly obvious to me that Calvinism is consistent with Scriptural teaching. I still have a great deal to learn, and that's why this Forum really excites me. I am rejoicing that God in His providence has brought me here. For the sake of full disclosure, I do believe that God still today graciously gives the gifts of the Spirit as outlined in First Corinthians chapter 12. Again, my agenda here is principally to learn from you good Christians. Perhaps, I might make some modest contributions on occasion.

Soli Deo Gloria

James -

We should have some interesting conversations I'm sure. Although not raised in the AoG church I have some history with them myself. My wife was raised in that church btw - and after I received salvation - we began attending the AoG and was involved in that denom for a few years. Sounds like you and I have some of the same hang-ups with them. Ultimately the reason we left that denom however was over their stand on "eternal security."

I myself have just recently begun to study the Reformers and have really only learned about Calvanism and TULIP in the past couple of years. I too find it very fascinating and (more importantly) consistent with what scripture teaches.

My hot topic of study currently is over Padeo-Baptism - as it is the only tenent of Reformed theology that I currently don't agree with. I have been reading article after article on it and have gotten into some excellent discussions with folks here on these boards concerning it. Not so much in an effort to debate - but to learn.

Anyway - I am going to PM you some names of three poster to pay paritcular attention to while you're at CF. These are the ones I have learned the most from since I've been here - and particularly over on the Sotoreriogy forum in regards to discussions on predestination/election. I usually seek out their posts - as they seem to be the most knowledgeable of anyone around here. Its obvious those guys have done their homework. I only ask that you hold my references to them in anonymity as they don't know how much I hold them in high regard - and I don't want them to get too big of a head! :) :)
