  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi everyone

I'm Claire, i'm 23 and from Worcestershire, England.

I did law at university and then law school, but unfortunately (for my plans anyway, God had other ideas!) I couldn't find a job so I moved to Japan to be an au pair for an American family.

I've had an amazing adventure here over the last few months and have been constantly surprised at what God seems to be doing in my life. I needed to be out of my comfort zone in order to experience that. Being in a country where you can't read most labels, signs etc and can't speak much of the language (despite great effort!) is definitely not comfortable!

I head back to the UK in April, and will just have to wait and see what's in store for me.

Interested in chatting with like minded young Christians :)

Hey, welcome to cf!

Glad to see you here!

I have been trying to learn a foreign language for a few years now, so I can understand what you mean by it being hard. I never realized how long it would take to learn a language until I tried. But it sounds like a really great experience!

It's a great experience :) a part of me thinks it would have been better if I had lived with a Japanese family, or even by myself for a bit more immersion in the language. Its very easy to get by with a few words and phrases so i think ive got too comfortable!

Ah yes, I think I know what you mean. I think I would learn Hebrew so much better if I were with someone who spoke the language. But I don't know anyone, and I can't afford to go to Israel right now :(

But that sounds great that you are learning some Japanese, and I think that is a wonderful experience ! !! ! ! ! :) I know a few Japanese people and they are so friendly! I have considered learning that language, but I am hoping on becoming fluent in the first one I started before trying to learn any others.

Welcome to CF. Hajimemashite!

I went on a study trip to Japan for three weeks, I really enjoyed the experience. It was so fun to explore a culture that was so different from my own and I fell in love with the Japanese culture. It's good to talk with a fellow Westerner who has been to/lived in Japan.

Sorry didn't know which of us your question was too, but I wasn't know, I didn't go until August 2011. But we have earthquakes every week,, the March 2011 earthquake was huge, and because of the tsunami that's what everyone thinks about when they think about Japan, but we have small ones which are still pretty freaky!
