  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Amazon, Campmor.com, REI, they call carry solar chargers. I just checked and Walmart's website lists them but I don't know if they have them in store. A camping supply store might have a small selection, too. A good 5-7 hours of direct sunlight will charge up a cell phone or an mp3 player.

Have you or someone you know ever experienced terrible damage from a natural disaster?

Only in The Wizard Of Oz! But a small one hit my town in New Jersey just 20 miles northwest of midtown Manhattan when I was in about 9th grade. Small damage.

Have you ever been on a U.S. Navy ship, either active or now museum?

Yeah, the USS Intrepid, a former aircraft carrier is there, on the Hudson around 40th Street or somethin' like that. It's a museum and you can see what it's like inside and walk on the deck and all that fun stuff. Fantastic views across the river of gorgeous New Jersey! Not sure when but maybe next year or the year after they'll have a Space Shuttle there, too.

Have you been to a Broadway play and if more than one, what's your favorite been?

9/11 National Memorial. Hands down. I used to visit a friend in the WTC who was interning with a company there and I've been to the Windows On The World restaurant once and the Observation Deck a buncha times. A friend of mine from high school, his brother died there that horrible day . . . he used to shoot hoops with us sometimes. A few people from my town and our neighboring "sister" town died in the attack as well as hundreds of others from that county. There's a million things I could list to have fun doing in NYC but #1 is the 9/11 National Memorial at the World Trade Center site.

Where were you, what were you doing that terrible morning?

sad day that was. many from my area died as well. I was actually suppose to be in the city that day but early that morning i cancelled my plans with my friend and stayed home instead. So I was home when that happened watching tv. I could see the smoke all the way here.

how old were you when you first flew on a plane?

I did live in France, in Chamonix in the Alps. Spent 10 months there. Kinda brief but still a good stretch of time. Skied everyday. I can't see myself ever living in another country again, though . . . but who knows, it's not up to me, it's up to God!

Do you believe it's okay for Christians to go to regular colleges and universities or should they only consider a Christian college?

Sure, what's not to like about it? Much better than walking when there's no moon. Too dark and spooky! I need my nightlight!! Ahhhhhhh!!!!! Moonlight walks are especially cool when you can actually see your shadow from the moon OH--and when then the moon reflects off the water. Very nice!

Most people use a tent but have you ever slept in a sleeping bag out under the stars?

LOL . . . yeah, with a lighter!!

Or . . . I have a Swedish Firesteel which, when scraped, creates super-heated sparks to create a fire. A pair of glasses (but not sunglasses) can also get a fire going if there's sun shining. And there's the old ancient method of using a stick and friction but that's not very easy -- I've done it successfully once and failed a bunch of times. Very tiring.

Would you rather camp right on the beach or in a beautiful mountainous setting?
