  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think it takes a strong man to stand up and say; no, I don't agree with race mixing, I think every race should have a right to preserve its culture and identity and to hell with political correctness.
Do you think all white people share the same culture and identity?

notice that you
think they are marring up
why is that?
It's very, very weird don't you think?
I was describing their way of thinking. Actually the term was coined by my Ogikubo-born Japanese girlfriend to describe the trend. So no, I do not think they are marrying up. They do.

My perceptions come from experience gleaned over time and filtered through an healthy skepticism, validated by others.

To comment on what you and MatthewKnight are arguing about . . . I find it strange that in the West the big word is diversity, yet at the same time integration through interracial marriage is accepted and almost encouraged. MatthewKnight is correct in saying that if everyone intermarried into one single race that much diversity would be lost. That part is not a matter of hate but a matter of simple, empirical scientific fact. The question is how to deal with it. Some cultures such as European ones and in the Americas have mostly been neutral on it, at least recently. Other places in the world such as Asia and parts of Africa and the Middle East frown upon it. Another question is why such frowning and ignoring occurs. If a culture frowns upon it is it because of the desire to maintain racial purity such as in Japan? Is it because of animosity such as Jews and Arabs? Is it because of cultural enmity like in sub-Saharan Africa? That is what piques my curiosity.

I'm a product of an interracial relationship: Irish,Welsh, and Native American. My kids are 50% Okinawan and my current girlfriend is Indian. I'm from Alabama, so I've experienced racism as I never dated any "white" girls growing up. My father could care less who I dated, so I was very fortunate. I remember going to a small high school for a year and being called gay because I befriended the only blacks in that school. That was over 11 years ago.

Fast forward to 2007. My son, Sean, was in school and got picked on because of his sking tone. He is overtly Asian in his appearance and some of the kids were picking on and even slapped him on the bus. The kids were given punishments, but its a reflection of the parents when kids act like this. Racism is still alive, and is not limited to just whites hating minorities but vice versa as well. Thankfully, we have greatly moved on from our past and this year's Presidential race is a testament of that. There is a viable Black Man who could actually win the Presidency, and help culminate a dream the Dr. King had.

What bothers me most is that when one prefers to stay within their race, they are called racist. It doesn't have anything to do with christianity or being racist, it's just personal preference.

When I read this it made me think of my parents. When they were younger, their families were not happy because my mother & father wanted to marry outside of their Italian / Slovak culture and their religion. My mother was Roman Catholic and my father Greek Orthodox Catholic. It all seems so much alike but it was thought of as different and their families wanted to preserve their culture, tradition, and history. MatthewKnight used those words a few posts back. And I could relate to those words thinking of the stories told when my parents married.

And it is personal preference ... along with those who choose other wise... The greatest concern I had with my daughter and it was shared with my daughter's boyfriend's father - (we come from a small village) was any harm coming to them. People did not have to agree with my daughter and her boyfriend being together, but we did not want them to be harmed by others disagreeing. They were not....

First of all, it's spelled Norwegian.

The problem comes when you transcend the colour line and create a half caste with no identity or place in the world.

The problem comes when parents in recent years insist on continuing to raise their children iup to become bigoted jerks who have no idea what they are talking about.

For example: You don't even have any clue what the word "caste means or what it refers to, from the looks of how you are using it. It has to do with social structure, not genetics. nationality or race.

1.Sociology. a.an endogamous and hereditary social group limited to persons of the same rank, occupation, economic position, etc., and having mores distinguishing it from other such groups. b.any rigid system of social distinctions. 2.Hinduism. any of the social divisions into which Hindu society is traditionally divided, each caste having its own privileges and limitations, transferred by inheritance from one generation to the next; jati. Compare class (def. 13). 3.any class or group of society sharing common cultural features: low caste; high caste. 4.social position conferred upon one by a caste system: to lose caste. 5.Entomology. one of the distinct forms among polymorphous social insects, performing a specialized function in the colony, as a queen, worker or soldier. –adjective 6.of, pertaining to, or characterized by caste: a caste society; a caste system; a caste structure.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/caste

Please do yourself a favor and educate yourself before going on a worldwide forum and embarrassing yourself. Especially given that you are English, your bad word usage is inexcusable.

And yeah, I'm one of those people with "no history" you keep talking about. My mother is Norwegian, my maternal grandmother's family was English (I had an ancestor on the Mayflower crossing) with a little German thrown in. The "problem" comes  with my paternal grandfather's family. They were Sephardic Jews *gasp*. What *were* my grandparents THINKING when they got married?!?! And that was WAAAY back in 1932, when the USA was a much more bigoted place.

But I've had no problems with MY heritage. I know exactly who I am, and I'm proud of it all. And there are many others out there who are like me, comfortable with all of who they are. The problem is people like you who make an issue out of the fact that a person is of mixed heritage to begin with. If the bigots of the world would just shut up about it, the entire issue would die.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

Way to twist an argument. The person in question was not called a racist because his preference is to stay within his own race. He was called a racist because he wants EVERYONE to stay within their own race. Clear difference.

What a nice girl you are. Cheers for correcting that.

Half caste has always been in very common usage as a word for a mixbreed or a mulatto - it's just a phrase. Look it up.

And yeah, I'm one of those people with "no history" you keep talking about. You're acting as if you're "mixed race" because two of your grandparents were sephardic jews?

Sephardic jews are white in the first place. They're descended from a tribe in Russia called the khazars who converted to Judaism in the 7th century. To be more accurate you'd call your grandparents Russian, but regardless to act all insulted at me towards me isn't doing yourself any favours. I never disagreed with whites marrying whites or blacks marrying blacks.

I find it amusing you're chest-thumping, acting as if you're "in with the brothas" as a mixed race person when you're nothing of the sort. You have no idea how hard it is for most half asians or half blacks to go through this world.

Labelling anyone who doesn't naturally gravitate toward their own race a "bigot" isn't helping your argument either.

Way to twist an argument. The person in question was not called a racist because his preference is to stay within his own race. He was called a racist because he wants EVERYONE to stay within their own race. Clear difference.

Quite -- for reasons already stated. Mixed race marriages harm the child who has to grow up with no culture, history or traditions to call its own. A half caste has no place in the world, constantly struggling for acceptance. It is damaging on the part of the parents.

On a broader scale, if interracial marriage became wholly commonplace and all the races blended into one homogeneous race, it would be a tragedy of the highest order - because we would also lose France, China, Germany, Japan, etc - with it. I prefer the world to have different races. Feel free to shout the vilest abuse at me for saying it.

True. However some people find the word insulting or derogatory though. Just for the record i don't happen to find it insulting, but it is a word i avoid using so as not to cause offence.

You sound like a broken record. Personally, I couldn't care less if people mistake me for being mediterranean, turkish, greek or any other country they might think i come from. I do have a problem with people like you saying that i have no place in the world due to mixed bloodlines.

I think you'll find my place in the world is not defined by what i look like, there are a 1000+ other ways in which i am defined. Further more i get many compliments on what i look like which is in no small part down to my parents whose blood is from different parts of the world.

Only a racist could say that someone like me has no part in the world. Only a racist could define someone solely by the colour of their skin. Only a racist could say that whites must marry whites and blacks must marry blacks.

Oh, really. Do you own the race you belong to? Does your right to racial purity override the other guy's right to marry whoever he wants?

No, and if you had actually read what I wrote, you'd know that. Let me re-phrase it so you'll grasp it:

My father's mother's family is English (and has the Mayflower connection). My father's father's side is Sephardic Jewish.

Sephardic jews are white in the first place. They're descended form a tribe in Russia called the khazars who converted to Judaism in the 7th century. To be more accurate you'd call your grandparents Russian, but regardless to act all insulted at me towards me isn't doing yourself any favours.

You could not be more wrong.

First of all, anyone who would spout the kind of bigoted vitriol as you've been doing deserves all the insults that intelligent, educated people on this forum and outside of it can come up with to throw at you. Your way of thinking is so last-century, old-fashioned and completely out-dated.

Since you do not cite a source for your information, you can't prove what you've written to be fact. I can prove that you are wrong, however. BTW, I looked up "khazar" on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khazar and there is not ONE reference to Sephardic Judaism on in that article. They mention Ashkenazi Jews and, as my source, below states, there is a difference between the two.

Sorry, you're going to have to try much, MUCH harder.

http://www.jewfaq.org/ashkseph.htm

Ashkenazic Jews are the Jews of France, Germany, and Eastern Europe and their descendants. Sephardic Jews are the Jews of Spain, Portugal, North Africa and the Middle East and their descendants. Sephardic Jews are often subdivided into Sephardim (from Spain and Portugal) and Mizrachim (from the Northern Africa and the Middle East), though there is much overlap between those groups. Until the 1400s, the Iberian Peninsula, North Africa and the Middle East were all controlled by Muslims, who generally allowed Jews to move freely throughout the region. When the Jews were expelled from Spain in 1492, many of them were absorbed into existing Mizrachi communities in Northern Africa and the Middle East.

The word "Sephardic" is derived from the Hebrew word for Spain.

Again, WAY off base with your "argument". Not to mention the fact that my surname, Alberga, definitely is NOT Russian, nor is there ANY evidence, nor have I ever headrd the "family historians" say that my ancestors came from Russia. It is from the Spanish verb "albergar" which means "to give shelter to". If you did your research before opening your big mouth, you'd find out that the Sephardic language, "ladino", is very similar to Spanish, and for good reason... because it was the Sephardics who settled Spain in the first place! I went to a concert of Sephardic music a few years back with my then-boyfriend who is Puerto Rican and he was able to understand most of the lyrics.

http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Judaism/Sephardim.html

Another link for your reading pleasure. Please note that there is nothing about Russians in the folloowing quote.

It is believed that Jews have lived in Spain since the era of King Solomon (c.965-930 B.C.E.). Little information can be found on these Jews until the beginning of the first century. We do know that in 305 C.E., the Council of Toledo passed an edict forbidding Jews from blessing the crops of non-Jews and prohibiting Jews and non-Jews from eating together.

*shakes head* You know, if you are going to insist on arguing with me, especially about my own people, you'd be well advised to come prepared.

True. However some people find the word insulting or derogatory though.

I don't aim to be politically correct.

You sound like a broken record. Personally, I couldn't care less if people mistake me for being mediterranean, turkish, greek or any other country they might think i come from. I do have a problem with people like you saying that i have no place in the world due to mixed bloodlines.

In your case it hasn't become a problem because the race mixing wasn't "race mixing" - but take a mulatto child who looks neither black nor white, or a Eurasian born from an asian and white parent and he will have nowhere to fit in.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gz6GtxfIAlE

Only a racist could say that someone like me has no part in the world.

You have no racial identity if that's what you mean. It's far easier for you because you pass for "mediterranean/turk." For someone who doesn't pass as anything being mixed race is extremely difficult.

Only a racist could define someone solely by the colour of their skin. Only a racist could say that whites must marry whites and blacks must marry blacks.

Define someone "solely" by the "colour of their skin?"

First of all, I don't think race is everything. I've known mixed race people as friends throughout my life - I don't bother bringing up the views here because what would be the point? The only reason I voice my disagreement in this thread is because that is the topic, and here I am responding. Most of them had a much harder life than anyone else with nowhere to fit in.

In fact, one girl I know who was part black had no friends whatsoever in High School. The last time I saw her she'd learned spanish and taken on an identity as a hispanic. That's how important identity is to people - they'll take on anything if they can. So why not just give it to your child from birth?

I applaud you for speaking your mind, but I've gotta say your wrong. Also, its ironic you speak about keeping the races pure. If you are from the US, chances are your not a pure blood yourself.

http://www.jewfaq.org/ashkseph.htm

Going to a heavily biased Jewish website where they're obsessed with the idea that they're somehow the "chosen people" isn't doing you any favours.

It is well documented that Jews are the descendants of the khazars.

Do some reading on the matter, starting here.
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=thirteenth+tribe&meta=

http://www.khazaria.com/genetics/abstracts-jews.html
"They also proved that Sephardi Jews are very close genetically to the Jews of Kurdistan, and only slight differences exist between these two groups and Ashkenazi Jews from Europe."

Again, WAY off base with your "argument". Not to mention the fact that my surname, Alberga, definitely is NOT Russian. It is from the Spanish verb "albergar" which means "to give shelter to". Clearly not, because your ancestors left Russia in the 7th century. I don't have any ties to the 7th century celts who inhabited England either. Regardless - you're still white, not mixed race. Nobody is going to look at you strangely because you're "half jew" as you seem to think (which is in essence, half white).

Another link for your reading pleasure. Please note that there is nothing about Russians in the folloowing quote.

Yet another biased source from the "chosen people." Again -- It's been proven that the Jews are descendants from the Khazars in all manner of DNA studies and historical evidence.
