Cutting the budget of scientific research while increasing the budget of presidential golf rounds is anti-intellectualism.
And it is plain stupid.
No its not. It's okay to hold your opinion, but it's not. What's your evidence? Simply cutting budgets is not evidence that it's anti-intellectualism.

Except in these and similar visa revocations, when their visa is revoked they become subject to ICE when suddenly they are no longer "documented".
Immigration law does not have the same requirements as criminal law. Not sure how manybtimes it needs to be said. You can be frustrated over it, but it is the law of the land and has been adjudicated as such. You'll need a different ruling from the Supreme Court. Just like we had to get.

I must have missed this comment. But surely one can have "anti-intellectual" opinions, no?
What does that even mean? Inbthe definition it talks about several things, art being one of them. How is disagreeing rhat something is art or not anti-intellectual?
What do you mean by this? Do you mean to imply that "the concept of a particular definition" can be "right" or "wrong?"
I'm saying it's a bad definition. My art example shows why.
I understand art is often seen as "subjective" and "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder," but there are certainly ways that anti-intellectual opinions could play out in the art world regardless if we use your preferred definition of anti-intellectual or the others in this thread.

Tell me how.

I think the criteria for being an intellectual has changed. A long time ago one could be left, center, or right and still be an intellectual. I think now it is required that one be on the left to be an intellectual. So if you have a centrist or even right of center position you are not an intellectual and are in face anti-intellectual. It's just the times we live in.
right and it's not years of the right and fox news complaining about, "ivory tower elites." and attacks on experts if they disagree with the right, just look at how many think trumps smarter then all the economists.

UCLA international student detained at U.S.-Mexico border amid Trump visa cancellations

“UCLA has learned that an international graduate student was detained by United States Customs and Border Protection while attempting to enter the United States from Mexico,” Mary Osako, UCLA vice chancellor for strategic communications, said in a statement to The Times.

“The student remains in the custody of CBP and we are actively working to learn more information."

[Her name and nationality are being kept private at the moment.]

Since late March, the Trump administration has suddenly canceled more than 1,000 visas of foreign students in the U.S., including more than 120 in California and roughly 20 at UCLA.

The administration has not given detailed reasons for the visa or student enrollment status cancellations.

More aggressive immigration enforcement actions took place last month, mainly at Ivy League and elite campuses in the Northeast, including Columbia University, where foreign students who supported pro-Palestinian protests were arrested for deportation. Some of those students were of Arab, Muslim or South Asian backgrounds. In statements and legal filings, the Trump administration has claimed the students were supporters of Hamas, a U.S.-designated terrorist group, and a threat to U.S. foreign policy goals.

In the case of the detained UCLA student, it is not known if she was involved in pro-Palestinian activism or if her visa had been canceled.

This tactic of abruptly canceling visas, then immediately arresting the holders for suddenly having become illegal, imprisoning them and then deporting them with no hearing or explanation is anti-American, against the Constitution and against the rule of law. This is scary.

Apparently, when ICE/DHS take phones from people, they are collecting their contacts then mass emailing those contacts ordering them to "self-deport or else", despite the contacts being US citizens.

Social media chat:

'Hey Pedro/Olaf/Lee/Mustapha/Mei, do you support Hamas?'

'No, they're a terrorist organisation'.

'But what do you think about the deaths of so many innocent Palestinian women and children?'

'I think it's tantamount to a terrorist act in itself'.

That's it. None of these kids can now get into the US on a student visa. Welcome to The New Reality.

And this post itself on an open forum will throw doubt on whether I'd be allowed in on a holiday visa. So...planned visit next year has been cancelled. We'll still go to America. Just not the bit between Canada and Mexico.

In a press release, Noem announced that current international students must “transfer or lose their legal status.”

When a university’s SEVP certification is revoked, currently enrolled international students must choose between transferring to a different institution, changing their immigration status, or leaving the country, according to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement website.

The move comes three weeks after Harvard partially submitted disciplinary records of international students that were requested by the Trump administration in mid-April. Administrators have declined to specify what information was shared with the agency.

How do you know?

You have no idea why these visas were canceled. Neither do I. But there was a reason. All college foreigners were not put in a hat and randomly selected.

Now we could argue that the State Dept. should tell the Amercan people why each and every student was ejected. But why should they? The left would attack them for just about any reason for it, so why bother. They don't have to provide anyone a reason. And until you can prove that there was NO reason for it, I will believe there was a reason. Its either that or the lottery, pick a student from a hat theory.

The UC Davis article said this:

"A spokesperson said the department generally won't comment on specific cases due to privacy considerations and visa confidentiality.

The spokesperson also cited "zero tolerance" for non-citizens who violate U.S. laws and said that all visa applicants are "continuously vetted."
It would be nice of they at least told the students.

It would be nicer if foreign students respected our citizens and our rules.
The 'rules' that you have, being a democratic country with a Bill of rights and a constitution, allow for views to be expressed.

You may not agree with some of those views but I expect you to support the constitution that grants you all the right to put them forward in a legal manner.

Expressing a view and becoming political activists in a host country are two entirely different things.
Publicly expressing a political view is being active. And hey, if you want to describe a protest against so many deaths as political activism, then you be you. But you're allowed to do it. I'll support your right to do it, even though I might think your views abhorrent. I really will stand up for you. Whether you do it at home or abroad. It's your right.

Do you understand that? It's your right. And I assume that you don't want the right to express your views, in whatever context, regarding any matter, in any way you think is applicable, to be taken away. Again, I would fight to let you keep it. And even if I don't actually expect you to stand up to support the rights of others, I definitely don't expect you to demand that they are removed.

Which is exactly what you are doing.

There are over 6000 foreign students at Harvard. How many violated the rules or even protested?
