I visited the nursing home closest to where I live. I am very impressed by the living conditions of the residents (at least the ones I saw). My grandmother stayed at a government-run facility, and it was very depressing. I could picture myself working there, which is a good sign. I have a lot to think about, and I might visit some other communities. One thing I learned today is I would not chose a cloistered order because I love traveling and exploring. My knowledge of Mandarin Chinese would be very useful in a care or missionary based order.

I believe that the story of Martha and Mary (Lk 10:38-42) prefigures the two kinds of nuns. Martha represents the kind of nuns that go out into the world mainly doing corporal works of mercy, and Mary represents the cloistered nuns who spend all their time in prayer.
