Intellect

Intellegent design?

  • Yes, there was a intellegent designer of the universe.

  • There was NO intellegent designer.

  • I have not decided yet.

  • What universe? The earth rides on the back of a turtle.

n. 1) a. The ability to learn and reason; the capacity for knowledge and understanding.

We find all of these things in our Bible.

Isaiah 1:17
    Learn to do good;
    Seek justice,
    Rebuke the oppressor;
    Defend the fatherless,
    Plead for the widow.

Isaiah 1:18a Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord:

Proverbs 1:7
    The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
    But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Exodus 31:3 And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,

There is so much wisdom, knowledge and understanding in the Bible. You could study it for a lifetime and you would only be starting to understand what God has for us to know.

Just because the bible used the words wisdom, and knowledge, doesn't mean that it actually has it.

The Bible, like the universe is infinite.
The last time I checked, the bible had a beginning, and end.

What are you trying to say, that there is no wisdom, knowledge of understanding in the Bible? If you believe that, then all that tells me is you know nothing about the Bible. Anyone with even a casual knowledge of the Bible knows that it is a rich storehouse of wisdom and understanding.

The last time I checked, the bible had a beginning, and end.

But there is no beginning or end to what you can gain in understanding from the Bible. I have read it close to 7 times and have studed it for over 20 years, and I am just beginning. There is a vast storehouse of treasure in wisdom and knowledge.

So are The Complete Works of William Shakespeare

Same thing with Shakespeare. As well as humor, romance, and poetry. What's your point?

I picked "I have not decided yet".

I think if the universe did have a designer, it would probably be something more akin to a scientific experiment in lab. A giant petri dish, if you will. Either that, or maybe a computer simulation (maybe like SimCity; heh, imagine finding out the entire universe is nothing more than a computer game).

Either way, I don't think the universe was made for our benefit.

Such religious rhetoric....

God wants us to know him - that's why he gave us the Bible. Is it his "word"? Of course not, Jesus is the Word of God. Given that, God did give us his Word so that we could know him. As Pete Harcoff observed, "I don't think the universe was made for our benefit." He's right: God made it for himself. However, his love is why he wants us to know him and thereby to be saved. We are saved by coming to know him. Anyone could be saved without the Bible, as long as they wish to know God. But it's the best way to come to know his Word - who will save us. No one will perish who wishes to know him. Anyone who does not know him has chosen to not know him. That's not simply "religious rhetoric" - it's doctrine. Agree with it or don't.

IMO, there is some wisdom to be found in the bible, but a great deal of it is nonsense.

(btw, you don't need to quote 1 Corinthians 1:18, 1 Corinthians 1:20, 1 Corinthians 1:25, or 1 Corinthians 3:19, I've already read the bible, I know what it says)

I vote 5) There is no empirical evidence for an intelligent designer of the universe. If there is such a designer, it is clear that she used secondary causes to accomplish her work, namely the laws of nature.

I would see the laws of nature as evidence for intelligent design. The way they all work together harmoniously would be another example of intelligent design.
