  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Infused or Imputed Righteousness?

Imputed for the forgivness of our unrighteousness, infused/imparted/given to replace that unrighteousness with true righteousness-both for our justification: our being made just.

"For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ! Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people. For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous." Rom 5:17-19

One of the things I like about John Wesley and Wesleyan theology is the balance between imputed and imparted righteousness. God not only 'decares us righteous', but He also desires to 'make us righteous' also.
Blessings.

Yes, and I've appreciated his focus on love being central to the gospel: God's love, of course, as well as ours in return. In fact, that love is the righteousness given/imparted to us, etc as I see it.

By grace through faith, is righteousness infused or imputed?
What do you see as the difference?

The issue of the way to become righteous is different from the issue of what describes the behavior of the righteous. The only way to become righteous is through faith apart from being required to have first done enough righteous works in order to earn it as the result, but what it means to be righteous is to be a doer of righteous works in obedience to the Law of God (1 John 3:4-7, Isaiah 51:7). We can't earn our righteousness even as the result of having perfect obedience to the Law of God, but rather it was given to describe the behavior of the righteous as it describes the behavior of Christ, so it is what we get to experience by being imputed/infused with the righteousness of God.
