  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

With Roland's newest film "The Day after Tomorrow" playing in theaters, I thought it would be appropraite to look at his last great film, "Independence Day." It was hated by many, and do you know why- BECAUSE THERE WAS A PATRIOTIC THEME TO THE FILM. Atheistis and other liberals hated it because they hate America, and hate any film that is associated with the idea that America is good.

Independence day was a good film when it came out. But now, its pretty dated!!!
Soooo many new films have come out since then which has beaten the record set by ID. Major example? The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
If there's one thing that I particularly like about ID, its the fact that they touched on the very mysterious issue surrounding the "Roswell case". I find that case very fasinating indeed and furthermore I would welcome comments and debates on 'AREA 51'.

You really talk the most awful pile of stink. If you really hate America you have to love Independence day. Why? Because alien invaders come and wipe all your landmark cities off the map, including most your citizens. Your military and airforce get *** kicked into next year, and the president is typically weak with no plan how to win or what to do.

So, America gets whipped by a bunch of aliens. How could anyone hate it? Oh, I remember now, because it was a crud film. Do you remember how the aliens were beat? By a laptop virus!!!!!!!!!! Yes, the aliens from another planet use the same USB connector as Dell. And not only that, they use Windows 95.

Do you know what this all means? Independence Day was a metaphor for Bill Gates taking over planet Earth.

Yeah. Great film. Really... urm... great.

p.s. As many atheists thought ID was good as Christians - bad taste in films is universal.

*ahem*

If you remember in the movie. The aliens infected our satellites way before we thought about infecting their computers. If they could infect our computers, then it was possible for us to infect them back.

I personally loved the movie when it came out. Who doesn't like watching aliens destroy half of the world? Though, I would have liked to see the Great Pyramids and Tokyo get blown away too... but thats just me.

Plus, lots of the appeal came from Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum, they added a good taste of comedy to the movie from ordinary people's perspectives... giving a less-than-epic taste and more of a comedic feel.

And... atleast they didn't try to make the president a Bill Clinton type

:D:D:D I thought of the same thing when I looked at the first post, the laptop. The movie was great when I was 14 and wanted to see things blow up and Will Smith attempt to act. But the film has become very dated and just too over the top. And yes bad taste in film is universal.

I hated it because it was just stupid. It was a brainless movie with big names and oversensationalism that made it popular. It was made with the purpose of making as much money as possible(summer blockbuster) not to promote patriotism. The plot was laughable and the acting wasn't that great. The characters were uninteresting. People were cheering in theaters because America defeated some aliens??? Um aliens aren't real. And even if they were I doubt our president would get into a space ship and fly into space to go and defeat them. How many people cheered after seeing saving private ryan? Probably not as many as saw Independence Day.

War of the Worlds and Mars Attack were much much better movies.

It was a remake of "The War of the Worlds".

'War of the Worlds'-- They use an atomic bomb on the aliens. The aliens are defeated by bacteria(virus) in the air.

'Independence Day'-- They bomb the aliens with a nuclear bom. The aliens are defeated by a virus.

An actual remake or just a rip-off? That sounds intresting, I may just have to pick up copy and see it. How off is WotW?
