• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Inconsistant Rules

Incest is a sin, for a very good reason. The sons and daughters of Adam and Eve had no choice but to commit this sin, however. How can God make an act a sin and give people no choice but to commit it?

Don't tell me that it was not a sin untile the time of Leviticus, because that just points to an inconsistency in God's working, and I don't know of any truths that are inconsistant.

Why where does the Bible say that Seth married his sister? We know where Eve came from, who is to say that God did not give Seth a wife in the same way He gave a wife to Adam?

Because the Bible doesn't say so.  John, what you are saying is that the Bible is literal but incomplete.  But if you can insert anything you want into the narrative, then you can make up your own Word of God.

Sorry, you can't have it both ways.  Either the Bible is the literal "Word" of God, which means it is totally true and complete, or you are inserting words into God's mouth by adding speculations like the above.

Again, let's be clear about Yahweh being "inconsistent" and the inconsistency of a literal interpretation of the Bible.  If you insist on a literal intepretation, then you will find inconsistencies.  But that doesn't mean the God of Genesis Creation, as in the God depicted by Genesis as creating the heavens and the earth, is inconsistent.

We are just now trying to get the creationists to use precise terms.  We apparently need to get non-creationists to do the same.

Common lucas, you're an intelligent guy, and you're saying that if the Bible does not tell about every event that ever happened in all of the characters lives, then it therefore cannot be totally true and complete?

Please

We are not talking about "every event" (like what they had for breakfast that day), but a major creation event.  If you can insert that God created other women from the ribs of other men, like John proposes, then what are the limits to what you can insert? Can you insert new speeches of what Jesus meant to say?  Can you insert stories of Jesus' childhood like the Infant Gospel of Thomas?
