The second priest I have worked with, had me in the confessional, and as I was reading my notebook with my deep and heartfelt examination of conscious, he was standing behind my chair, and he was saying all kinds of prayers, softly, but audible mostly-sometimes it seemed intentionally whispered so i could not understand.

He was wearing a white garment, but had a purple stole.

He placed the stole from behind me over my right shoulder and kept it there. I think it was also on my left shoulder too, but can't remember exactly.

I'm often not myself and out of it.

As I was reading my confessions with true contrition, he was saying these prayers. Some seemed to be in English, some in Latin, some I am not certain of, because I am often not "all there" when I'm doing this.

I do know that he anointed my forehead with a balm, but I cannot remember if he did that before I began as well as after.

He kept blessing me at some point, most likely it occurred after absolution was given.

He gave me positive feed back on my confession and his confidence, combined with the power and blessings of the Holy Catholic Church, along with my sincere confession all came together.

He showed me mercy and kindness, used the power of his office, and the Church, however my heart had to be ready to give confession from my depths.

All of the little details, its often too hard to remember.

But the absolute key is confession.

Yes, I would think Koine Greek of the New Testament would be even more powerful than Latin.
But most people in the West spoke Latin, which is why St Jerome, who's memorial is today BTW, translated
the Bible from Greek into Latin.
