  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's obvious you do not care about Black lives because you just cut and paste the murder of a man that is not African American in an effort to attack African Americans calling out police brutality. You are also ignoring the fact that there are many organizations that are devoted to dealing with crime and the elements that contribute to crime in Chicago; this falls in the category of "because I do not know something, it does not exist." You do not care about crime in Chicago because you're not even aware of the organizations out there. No, calling out the murders of people in Chicago is simply to deflect from the issue of police brutality. This attitude is the same ignorance that says people like Colin Kaepernick only kneel while ignoring the time and money he has devoted to numerous organizations; again, another scenario of "because I do not know something, it does not exist."

Did you know that white people commit crimes at a higher rate than immigrants? Why don't you focus on eliminating white-on-white crime before you focus on the crimes of immigrants? Did you know that white people also murder each other more than Islamic terrorists in the USA? So why don't you focus on those murders instead of terrorist attacks?

Do you see how stupid that argument looks now?

That is .00000053 of the total population.

Look at how the actions of a few football players now has you discussing the problem rather than ignoring it. Good for them.

But I'll be sure to apply this standard to future discussions. Only a few Christians executed by the government because of their belief? Who cares since it is such a small percentage of the total population!

I however do not understand why no one - nadda - zip doodily are upset over events causing more deaths of the African American population in a week than all the police forces in all the US cities combined over a year.

I can never understand that.

I'd have a problem with it if it were actually true. But it isn't.

Thank you, but I do in fact understand why people are upset about it - and to an extent agree with them - I however do not understand why no one - nadda - zip doodily are upset over events causing more deaths of the African American population in a week than all the police forces in all the US cities combined over a year.

Then you really don't understand, do you?

Think about it honestly for a bit, and see what you come up with. Consider inside community, and outside community.

There are plenty of people who are upset about it. There are groups that deal with it, forums for discussing, and rallies and meetings and everything in between. There are organizations dedicated to reducing black-on-black crime. It is not an ignored problem, despite what some people seem to think.

Maybe it doesn't make national news and get the coverage it really should, and that's a fair criticism. But this 'nobody's doing anything about black-on-black crime' line is a total canard.

You cut and pasted four posts from a site and I am wrong for cutting and pasting?

Do Hispanic lives not matter? Seriously? Are members of only one race the only ones that matter? There is a whole lot of murders going on out there -

in an effort to attack African Americans calling out police brutality.

If pointing out that BLM only emphasizes cases that get them press is attacking them in your eyes, perhaps you should examine your position.

It strikes me that an organization that focuses on events that result in the deaths of 16 people nationwide, while virtually ignoring events that kill thousands in one city is out of balance and their energies misplaced.

The message given seems to be that the only black lives that matter are the ones that happen in police interactions. They spend time, energy, organization, and major efforts for those that tragically lose their lives.

At the same time, they are virtually silent and non existent in areas that cost thousands of live of black and brown and white people.

Absolutely agree because it exposes the hypocrisy of a movement that ignores the cause of thousands of people being killed a year.

But I'll be sure to apply this standard to future discussions. Only a few Christians executed by the government because of their belief? Who cares since it is such a small percentage of the total population!

You are free to apply whatever standards you wish to whatever position you wish to apply them. That action alone does not make them valid nor invalid. As for me personally, I will restate it a third time, in hopes the reader understands. Every life, white, black, brown whatever the pigmentation of the skin, is valid and precious.

Plugging the hole in the dam, while the walls are crumbling isn't going to do very much for the people who are drowning.

I'd have a problem with it if it were actually true. But it isn't.

Well there you are - good luck with that.

Yes, I did. I did that in the other thread you did about this topic.

Really? where??? Here are the two responses you offered when I asked for proof -

We do. We talk about the black on black crime problem and hold rallies about and discuss it all the time.

This 'black people don't care about black on black crime' line is provably untrue.

What would that prove? If there's not a thread on CF about it, it doesn't count?

Um, no. I made THREE responses. You're missing the third.

Here.

I don't have timeline to tell you when the LAST TWO would be, but I can point out a few that you might be interested in.

There was Alpha Phi Alpha rally in Chicago (yes, Chicago).

The Peace Hub Youth Conference (also in Chicago)
Mothers Against Senseless Killings (CHICAGO)

The last one in particular is a rather interesting instance.

How A Group Of Mothers Helped Bring Peace To A Troubled Chicago Neighborhood

They're not as forgotten as you might think.

Now that I have these here, plain as day, please tell me why these don't count as black people caring about black-on-black crime.

You are right, I missed the third - thank you.

However BLM is still nowhere near there.

You are correct - I will give you that much, I wish BLM would use the attention that's been giving to them to shine a light on organizations like MASK and draw more people to things like the Alphas Stand rally. I will absolutely agree that more could and should be done.

But I also wish people would stop saying there's NOTHING being done, that it's a problem we've all ignored. That is not true.

True, but I was making the comment in regards to an organization that holds the National Lime light and is purports themselves as a group that honors all black lives. When the only people they speak of are ones that die from police interaction. Even ones that bring on their own deaths like Michael Brown. But the 1 month old gets no mention from them.

That wasn't the impression I go when you wrote this.

But fair enough.

I see it coming down to what makes the news and what doesn't. BLM makes for better headlines and a more controversial story than a bunch of Moms patrolling the streets over the weekend. There are a lot of groups like this, but many of them are local and relatively small.

Can you imagine how much more they could do with Pro Athletes and a National movement behind them, bringing their cause to national attention.

You cut and pasted four posts from a site and I am wrong for cutting and pasting?

Do Hispanic lives not matter? Seriously? Are members of only one race the only ones that matter? There is a whole lot of murders going on out there -
You started a thread about black people and made statements along the lines of "if black lives matter to them..." and then you post the murder of a white male. It's obvious you were not paying attention because your entire point of bringing up Chicago is to deflect from talking about police brutality while insinuating that murder in Chicago equals black people.

If pointing out that BLM only emphasizes cases that get them press is attacking them in your eyes, perhaps you should examine your position.
Black Lives Matter is against bad policing, of course they are going to point out stories with police overreach.

It strikes me that an organization that focuses on events that result in the deaths of 16 people nationwide, while virtually ignoring events that kill thousands in one city is out of balance and their energies misplaced.
You just said every life is precious, you do not seem to care that innocent people have been killed by the police. The actions of individuals, is not the same thing as the actions of a government entity. And if you cared to read the DOJ reports, the problem is not only people killed by the police, it is the pattern of abuse. Moreover, the lack of accountability is the biggest problem. For any American citizen that takes someone's life, they are usually tried, and if found guilty, are punished; unfortunately, we have seen numerous cases where police officers go unpunished, even if they are found guilty or accusations sustained. But you continue to ignore these facts (it seems you would rather waste money protecting bad police officers).

The message given seems to be that the only black lives that matter are the ones that happen in police interactions. They spend time, energy, organization, and major efforts for those that tragically lose their lives.
Keep repeating the lie that "only black lives matter," no one has said this, so stop repeating this straw man.

At the same time, they are virtually silent and non existent in areas that cost thousands of live of black and brown and white people.
You are ignorant of what is actually happening in Chicago and other cities, so stop arguing that they are ignoring something when you do not know the work they are doing. You do not care about Chicago, that's why the text you posted didn't even pertain to the group you were attacking. But perhaps you can help me understand how the murder of a white male fits into your attack on Black Lives Matter "ignoring black-on-black crime" (or whatever reason you're using to ignore police brutality).
