  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

But everybody keeps repeating the claim that "only Democrats voted for impeachment" so I was wondering if i missed an announcement that he had joined the Democratic Party.
They just aren't expressing that detail. They say the same thing about Bernie Sanders and Anges King because they caucus with the Dems. That means they chose the Dems. to assign them to committees where they represent the Democrats.

In the past, there have been Independents who caucused with the Republicans.

And Justin Amash isn't caucused with either party. He's a dyed in the wool conservative, and people conveniently fail to mention that he agreed with the democrats on this.

Yes, I knew he was a conservative-libertarian, the Ron Paul kind. I read your post and got curious. :)
From what I can find he isn't sitting on any Republican committee any longer. He is caucusing with two caucuses that he founded, the Liberty Caucus and the Second Amendment caucus. He is also a constitutionalist.
He endorsed Rand Paul for President and then Ted Cruz when Paul dropped out.
I probably should pay more attention to him, I wrote in Rand Paul for President in 2016. As an unaffiliated voter, I couldn't vote in the primaries at that time.

I agree with you that his votes should be recognized separately.

The Dems. should have asked him to serve as a House manager for the impeachment trial. He's an attorney, a Constitutionalist, and could have easily taken on Dershowitz's new argument against the impeachment articles, I say new because he argued just the opposite at Clinton's trial. He would have been a more impressive and trusted, by more people, than any of the managers they have now.

1) The growing partisan climate - 2) Trump's impeachment, for the only time, was purely partisan, just Democrats voted for it.

It's hard not to be partisan when one party is so deeply corrupted by a tyrranical, authoritarian demagogue.

I wonder if he might have been offered the position and turned it down, because a lot of the younger Democrats apparently wanted him as a manager.

Fact?

Joe Biden's brother, James Biden was given a $1.5 Billion dollar government contract to build homes in Iraq during the Obama Administration
Just like Hunter he had no experience
Where is the Media on this?

If his last name were Trump there would be nonstop coverage

Rep. Adam Schiff: "The president's misconduct cannot be decided at the ballot box. For we cannot be assured that the vote will be fairly won."

true?
Given Donald's well-documented requests to have foreign governments interfere with our elections, seems like an obvious conclusion.

Hunter Biden is a fifty year old corporate lawyer and financial executive with international experience and a net worth of three million dollars. He is eminently qualified to be an outside director of a company like Bursima. Whether he is corrupt or not is another question, but to talk about him as if he was a gormless boy with a sinecure is to spin a lie.

Not that you are inaccurate but do you have a source that says younger Democrats wanted him as a manager?

Maybe because James Biden didn't have any ownership in the company or because the company didn't end up with the contract or maybe because the contract was a subcontract from a much larger $35 billion contract awarded to a South Korean company.
Or maybe the media just didn't know about it until the book came out. Your guess is as good as mine.

He was also a lobbyist and foreign companies need lobbyists, especially a lobbyist who has been around D.C. for many years.

Why did Bursima hire an US x-CIA employee and the past president of Poland to sit on their Board of Directors?

Ugh. I need to see if I can track it down.

ETA: I think this was the article I read. https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...9e5280-1f54-11ea-86f3-3b5019d451db_story.html
Thank you, I lucked out, I hadn't used all my free articles for the month so no pay-wall.
Good article, I wish they could have gotten him to do it. I had the same thoughts that Phillips did. His strongest point being that he knows constitutional law, I think he could put flip-flopper Dershowitz to shame. He also comes off as being ethical and honest.

Both Biden and Obama. Had millions to billions of dollars of close financial connections to Ukraine.

Pres. Viktor Yanukovich, and
his minister Zlochevsky, who
founded Burisma...
have massive financial ties to
VP Biden -- his son Hunter received millions from Burisma
P Obama -- his Natural Security Advisor (conflict of interest??) and another major campaign contributor profited from billions invested into their Temple ton Investments firm
president Obama got money from someone who got money from Yanukovich who got the money illegally in Ukraine

Sorry, I don't understand your question.
Given the numerous claims that he didn't vote for impeachment - that it was only democrats who did - there seems to be a concerted effort to pretend he doesn't exist. I see no reason that sort of deceptive behavior wouldn't continue if he was made part of the Senate process. There's a narrative to defend here, no reason to think that facts would get in the way of that.
