Read Saint Athanasius’s book on the Incarnation, it does wonders in explaining this notion, here’s a few passages where he explains the meaning of being made in the Image of God in relation to Christ the incarnate Logos:

That we like God are reasoning, feeling, spiritual beings that no matter how damaged are to be cherished and valued for who they are.
