Yes, someone ought to fix that.

Well, all we need do is look at some peoples' posts to know we really need to spend MUCH more time teaching basic algebra and math to kids!

That would only apply in the present universe, one would assume that the SN originated in the former state, or at least the changing universe process.

OK. So, W is the will of God. X is one star, and Y is another. And FL is the former light speed.

X x FL divided by W = W FL
Y x FL divided by W = W FL
W FL x W = W FL
If W = Y FL, and W = X FL, and X does not = Y then either speed is W. (even if different)

:)

Once they can handle simple 7th grade algebra and then maybe logic we can move onto headier topics like mythology.

The worst teachers in the world, bar none, are those who dogmatically refuse to learn from the students.

I was waiting for this to come up --- let me refresh your memory here:

I was almost laughed out of the room. All of my 20 or so students told me that creationism and intelligent design theory was utter junk.

And I'll throw this one in, just for good measure:

Yay students :)

Welcome back, Kotter.

Well, there are both scientists and atheists here so I am going to assume that you mean a class of children. In that case, you expect children not to joke and mock every single statement that you make?

Hahaha, you're funny.

and this is supposed to say ...what?

Frankly I couldn't care less what Peter's students say. I was commenting on your potential ability to "teach" creationism (or anything for that matter).

If I was teaching born-again fundamentalists, [something like] this would be included in my opening lecture to my class:
  • In this classroom, we're going to study Genesis 1 creation. And by Genesis 1 creation, I don't mean Genesis 2, 3, or 4. I don't mean Habakkuk 1. I mean Genesis 1. G-E-N-E-S-I-S O-N-E.
  • ...later on...
  • Never, ever, ever stray from Genesis 1 when debating the Creation with anyone. There are a very few exceptions, like when proving from Scripture that the Creation was "perfect." Which I'll detail later in the course of this study.
  • People will try and bring up the Fall, the Flood, a talking "snake" (which I'll show later was neither a snake, nor "talked"), another account in Genesis 2, etc. DON'T GO THERE WITH THEM. And incidentally, every once in awhile, I'll mention the Flood, or the serpent, diseases, or something outside of Genesis One; and when I do, I'll be expecting to be called on it.
  • Now, turn to Chapter One of your syllabus, called The Apple Challenge, and let's have fun.

You dont think you'd be laughed out of the class? If Creationists scientific arguments arent taken seriously, what makes you think reading some scripture will be?

Depends on the class. Is it high school, or college? I'm sure they're either paying good money to learn this, or their parents may have to be called in for a session or two, ya think?

Either way, education could use more student-teacher respect, could it not?

So what's wrong with Genesis Two?

If I was teaching born-again fundamentalists,

Well, you've failed in the first thing a teacher learns:

You don't get to choose who your students are or what they think.

Good try, though! Excellent, subtle shifting of the goal posts. Good Creationist form.

Bravo.

If you were teaching Born-Again Fundamentalists why don't you just say "no matter what people bring up, be it informed content or actual evidence, you don't have to take any of it as important. Just yell louder at them. If that doesn't work tell them that you don't have to convince them, that's the Holy Spirit's job!"

You could save a lot of time.

Either way, education could use more student-teacher respect, could it not?

It works both ways. I'll be the first to say that often times students need to be corralled and taught.

But, don't ever forget, if the majority of students you are teaching fail the test, it means that likely you the teacher are doing a bad job.

I've seen it a number of times before. I've had it happen to me. I taught a topic and the class just dropped off the map on the test. Now either I found the statistically most unlikely assemblage of 20 of the most stupid human beings to randomly be thrown together in a room...or I taught the subject poorly.

Of course if I thought God had given me all the answers I might bluster and blow like a Creationist. But since I'm a mere human (as are all creationists...none of the ones I've met were God) I think we all know the answers.

What about you? Are you just so unlucky to be faced with the most stupid group of people who've individually spent more time in college than you likely have, or is it likely that you have failed to teach the topic well?

Could you imagine lining up YEC against Evolution in a classroom? I would think it would be a creationist's worst nightmare.

Or in my case --- breakfast.

That's a good point though. You have given me an idea. Later on, I could bring in an atheist or scientist, and have my class go head-to-head with them.

Not bad --- :)

AV, Why would you be teaching Born again Fundamentalists?

They'd already believe in Creationism.

I remember last year in my Bio class, references to God creating stuff became the class joke because everytime the teacher asked a difficult question on Evolution, someone would blurt out "Uh.. i dunno...God did it!!" and everyone would laugh.

Anyone failing Genesis 1 Creation, in my opinion, has got a real problem. I'd say that would make atheism a disease, not a religion.

But how many can actually defend it well? In this forum alone, I see creationists stray all over the spectrum. They need to learn to use Genesis 1 like it was written --- sharper than a two-edged sword. And that takes practice.

As my pastor (?) pointed out, you put a sharp two-edged sword in someone's hand who doesn't know how to use it, and someone's gonna get hurt.

If atheism is a "disease" at least it leaves a functioning brain during the course of the disease.
