• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Sometimes, most times actually, we need lots of help in quitting. Using over the counter medicines are proven to be benificial. First we need to help ourselves by consulting our doctors for the best advice.

I did terrible today. I feel like such a jerk. Two times now I said I set a quit day and I couldnt do it. I smoked 8 cigarettes today and its only 7pm. Thanks for the advice. I did call a doctor. I wanted to try the nicotrol inhaler but its too expensive. But I think we already have the best doctor there is. I am going to keep on trying on my own and pray I find the strength within to quit this dirty habit I have.

You are very kind Sister but they are not happy with me upstairs.

I am often disobedient and I dont even really know why.

I think I am a little depressed. A lot of bad things happened to me and IM tryong to get over it but its not easy.

They have made it well known to me that I am to quit this dirty habit and I feel very guilty that I keep smoking.

But thanks very much and please pray for me that I can do it.

Hello,

I just want to say that the fact that you are trying to stop is a big thing already. Dont be so hard on yourself. God knows you want to stop, He can see your efforts. You will reach your goal, I have no doubt.

I am praying for you. In order for me to stop smoking I had to get rid of the cigarettes-they are too much of a temptation. You are in the first step of quitting-thinking about it and trying. You are doing good and You Are on the road to quitting. All the best to you.

Now that my health scare is over I can wipe my brow and talk sense.
I don't know how heavy of a smoker you were but perhaps 8 cigarettes in one day is a real improvement, especially if you didn't have nicotine replacement aids to use. IMO that takes a lot of inner strength.
The receptionist where I used to work quit by cutting down over time.
I used to smoke 20 per day and during the first days I actually felt really bad about having 3 cigs which I now see as no big deal given I picked myself back up again. Speaking from personal experience, having a few slip-ups during the first few days is much safer than having just one cigarette six months down the track (been there :doh:and ended up back on 20/day).
Anyway I ended up just forgiving myself for those slip ups early last week and I got tired of the quit ritual (showering after final cigarette etc) and I decided to destroy my last cigarettes. I haven't touched a cigarette for going on two weeks now and feel much more settled into my not smoking routine.
I've taken up doing 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles as they are engrossing. Reading is also mentally engrossing.:)
I would be a mess without NRT though and will use it for about three months.

I think i finally quit. I haven't smoked in six days. I think the Lord is helping me because I kept saying I wish I didn't remember to smoke anymore.

Lots of days I get up now and I just dont remember it anymore

This isnt the first time the Lord has healed me of something.

Thanks to God

IM trying to quit and its just so very hard. I put the cigs out in my car and I still smoked 3 today and might even end up smoking 4. I want to do this thing and IM just havng the hardest time.

I'm so happy for you! We can put those butts down!

I have not smoked in 7 months, it is so hard. I struggled for 20 years. It is one of the hardest things to do. You want to quit and just feel like you can't. It's a horrible horrible addiction.
It does get easier, I promise ;)

Please don't be hard on yourself. We all are human. I did the same and felt bad, and I even considered going back to smoking but I made up my mind that I am not going to spend and more money to hurt myself.
