  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The fun never ends here. This is just my day in Suggestions; I'm going to spare you the tedium of reading the rest.

No one can be meaner than a Christian. Has anyone else noticed that?

I'm so sorry! I don't wander much between the forums...it isn't safe out there :sigh:

The non-believers have noticed. Ghandi was on the verge of baptism until he boarded with a Christian family...and he turned from the faith because of thier behavior...he said "the only thing wrong with Christianity is the Christians"...the army of God fights itself, and the enemy does as he pleases.

sad....very sad.

No it isn't, is it? lol
That's supposedly my congregational forum, but I dropped my subscription after reading that, and yet another Suggestions thread with plans to wall everyone away from each other, rather than make a real attempt to be courteous, the way you do here with admirable success.

It's bad in the real world, too. I can already see that my "Christian" landlady isn't going to renew my lease next year because I'm disabled, but my next door neighbor, the sado-[bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] who makes bullwhips and sometimes invites two lady friends over at once, will still live here because he goes to her Baptist church, and doesn't have to apply to the Housing Authority for part of his rent.

Yes, too true. I converted through a sort of 'launch window', a relatively short period of time when the Jesus Freak movement was active.
Now...I would probably have come to the same decision as Ghandi.

So sorry about all that planny, I went against my "only read posts that have 3 pages or less" rule and actually read it all and I must say that I feel so sorry for you and you definetly did not deserve that! I know it will not make up for the exclusion of PRE, but you know you are always welcome here and to call here your congregational forum.

The divisions in christianity are amazing, no? In Judaism theres only a few different groups and they differ only in how observant they are. But I couldnt believe the suggestion that they seperate the prodestants into groups depending on their method of water baptism. Whats next? Seperating them over the length of their pastors hair?
I think what we are seeing here is something of the ugly side of christianity. All too quick to call someone with different beliefs a heretic. Mind you, I understand the reason why I am dubbed a heretic at least once a day, how dare I ever entertain the notion Yeshua taught Torah Observance. But anyways, when they start labbeling each other heretics all over silly church observances, and start to split each other up.....well its a sign something is majorly wrong.

On another note, I didnt know that "fora" was the plural for "forum" and Ive been visiting "fora" for years now lol.
Anyways like I said Planny, you are always more than welcome here, I dont think anyone denies that much. :)

Shalom and G-d bless you

BTW Plan, I just want to tell you that I enjoy very much the comments, questions, insights and play that your posts add into this forum and you really do "fit" with all of us here... we're all in our own individual places of learning, grasping, grappling and growing, and this isn't a forum (IMO) where everyone has this set of doctrines and dogma that we all see exactly the same way and must agree upon to the Nth degree. You're seeking, respectful, and you love us; and we love you. You fit just fine. And your contributions to the forum threads are valuable. What I mean to say here is... I know that this isn't your congregational forum and it must be very disheartening to feel unwelcome in the one that is supposed to be yours. I hope you feel welcome and at home here with us at any rate.

I have a solution for Plan 9

We assimilate her!

It will be easy actually a minor change from
UMC to UMJ

Don't sweat the small stuff sis!
Here is what I do.

I find out if we share the belief of Christ Crucified - Burried and Risen again.
If so everything else is subject to inturpertaion and error. And know what sis that includes me.

There should be some common tennents and know what most Christians don't follow them.

Love G-d with all your heart - Can you do that? Really go back and try harder you can do more.

Love each other with a deep and passionate love - It is my joy to be among the family and I just do so much hate it when you hurt each other. So stop doing that. Here is a suggestion YOU BE THE PEACE MAKER! Try it some time. What if your opinion is wrong? You be the peace maker you you you you you.

Spread the word - While we are running around with denominational squabbles over dumb stuff there is a world out there that is dying and going to hell. Why? Because we are too busy being right that we have no time left to do right. Tell some one today the good news. Don't be afraid. Tell me when was the last time you prayed with a stranger? Some one who didn't know G-d?

Bless you all
Did I tell you today that I love you?

Pastor George

Actually, they fight so much there, and all over the board, that the MJ forum is the first place I've had where I could come to enjoy real peace. Also, the few people who stalk me are afraid to post here to denigrate me.
In PRE, I have a whole long series of posts with Lotar in which we did discuss a DMZ subforum where people who wanted to have peaceful discussions could do so, but look what it turned into!
As you will have noticed, they actually admitted to running Anglicans off, and they run us UMC folks off, too; they did a number on Paladin Vader yesterday. they called him a Pharisee for choosing not to drink alcohol, smoke, or have premarital sex, even though he wasn't saying that anyone else had to live by his standards, even though Paul was Pharisees, and I believe Yeshua to have been one, too.
After Paladin left the thread, having realized that giving this personal information because the OP asked us to was a huge mistake, other people turned up to defend him and to be equally nasty to the people who'd been nasty to him. I was the only smoker to defend him, though; few take up for you there unless they feel you're in total agreement with them. Anyone can say almost any horrible thing while others stand aside and do nothing.

The divisions in christianity are amazing, no? In Judaism theres only a few different groups and they differ only in how observant they are. But I couldnt believe the suggestion that they seperate the prodestants into groups depending on their method of water baptism. Whats next? Seperating them over the length of their pastors hair?

Even though Lotar denies this, your differences are great enough to have you at each other's throats by PRE standards, as the sprinkling verses dunking baptism subforum division shows. I'll bet we have triple dippers, too, who would object to being stuck with the single dippers if that plan were adopted.
FYI, Wesleyans have split over whether women should cut their hair, men whould wear neckties, and whether both sexes should be alowed to wear wedding rings. I thinks that's close enough the length of the pastor's hair to be a little scary.

Yes, It's very ugly indeed, and it's a sign of something terribly wrong.

On another note, I didnt know that "fora" was the plural for "forum" and Ive been visiting "fora" for years now lol.

Actually, both 'fora' and 'forums' are correct now, but I'm old fashioned about my Latin terms. Although I'll use shortened forms like "infra dig", I'm otherwise one of those "alumni, alumnea, alumnus, alumna" people. My age is showing when I do this, and I wonder if I seem snotty because I want to be as precise as possible in my language. Here, just about everyone seems to want to be precise when discussing a serious subject; you all seem to be aware of the power of words.

Anyways like I said Planny, you are always more than welcome here, I dont think anyone denies that much. :)

For no reason I understand, except in terms of your graciousness, kindness, and your true devotion to HaShem, you have all made me welcome here. Thank you. :)

Shalom and G-d bless you, Hix.

He, it actually was done that way historically. ;) Babtism involved submerging oneself (not by any help of another) three times. It was also done up to three times a day in some circles, before every entrance to the synagogue. The reason it was done was to cleanse one's heart and focus one's thoughts on G-d. Which hardly seems the purpose of such spurious factionalizing such as the one in that thread...Sectarianism throws out the baby with the bathwater.

Only you guys could turn my pity-tripping thread into something positive, when you should probably be asking me if I wanted any cheese with my whine. ;)

What was the function of, say, John the Baptist, then?

The reason it was done was to cleanse one's heart and focus one's thoughts on G-d. Which hardly seems the purpose of such spurious factionalizing such as the one in that thread...
Strangely enough, that's supposed to the reason why Gentile Christians immerse as adults, not that you can tell that from reading this thread.

From the onlooker's point of view, infant baptism (forgive me if you already know this) as practiced by United Methodists demonstrates of G-d's promise of love and care for the infant, as adult baptism demonstrates the believer's promise of love and obedience to G-d.

Sectarianism throws out the baby with the bathwater.
Yes, it's promotes spirtual death, not life, which is why I can't afford to participate in that forum. Their proposed "cure" can only make this disease worse.
As you read, Anglicans and United Methodists aren't at all welcome in PRE, and I think the reason why is probably that both denominations (one is the parent of the other) allow too wide a range of varying belief and practice to suit many of the PRE sectarians. Wesley (who remained an Anglican minister) said, and I hope I remember this right, "In matters not directly pertaining to essentials of belief and practice, think and let think."
Now, modern Methodists may have taken this a bit farther than Wesley envisioned, but the denomination was a real sanctuary to me when the spirit of commonality engendered by the Jesus movement began to depart from the non-UMC conservative churches. I could be a Messianic and a United Methodist with no problem, as long as I didn't make my different views of faith and practice a source of wrangling and division there, things I hate like poison myself.
