That got your attention!
What I mean by "I'm naked" is that I forgot to put my wedding band back on after I showered this morning. Yeah, I know...I'm just the type who has to remove all items when I shower, ok?
I've been feeling this little, nonexistant 'ghost ring' on my ring finger. Feeling the band of pale, shiny skin where it's supposed to be. My finger feels unnaturally light. Looking at my finger, it has an indentation right there, like the ring has been acting like a finger girdle for these 7 years I've worn it. When I put my fingers together, the telltale metal against skin feeling isn't there.
I thought about calling my wife and telling her that I forgot it, but she's undoubtedly been in the bathroom and saw it on the counter. A little piece of metal, alone it is without meaning. But without it I feel naked, like I'm missing a part of myself.
There are married guys I work with, older, who NEVER wear their wedding bands. Their fingers don't show this discrepancy. I've never asked them why they don't wear them, but I've always wanted to. I assume, possibly incorrectly, that it's because they don't want to look 'tied down'. Who knows. All I know is when I get home today, I'm heading right upstairs and putting it back on.
