Hi there, I am in Australia so I don't know if you have the same sort of thing in the UK, but we have a government department of Community services that sells computers at a very low cost to those on pensions or low income. The thing is with most things you have to ask around.
Perhaps a local community education centre or something like that could help steer you in the right direction.
Many places regularly upgrade computers when there is nothing at all wrong with them and in the case here, they are given an overhaul and have a warranty.

Of course this might not apply to your situation, if so, I'm sorry to butt in.

I'm sure others here can give you advice for a new one.
Maybe stores may sell demo models, cheaper?
I gave up my computer and just have my phone so I am certainly not computer savvy!

My current laptop was bought at Argos for just under £400. It isn't, by any means, the fastest laptop on the market but it is good enough for the things I need to do. It has a very good battery, has a decent sized touchscreen which folds flat so you can use it like a tablet.

I have gotten some amazing deals on computers from Amazon. I use a google chrome for the internet and I use a windows computer for working offline. I pay about $100 for an internet computer and $200 for windows core i5 computer with a solid state drive.
