  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm happy.

The thermometer in my car had the little snowflake icon next to the temperature this morning (appears below 40F). I was NOT happy about this at all. However, I'll take that over the disaster that is happening in Michigan on the radar....I hate the cold.

Here in Michigan, that's what we refer to as "lake effect". ^_^

For those unfamiliar with it, it's when the moisture from the lake(s) is drawn up into the sky, then dumped back down as snow. This means that, unlike those in other parts of the country, those near the Great Lakes don't have to wait for some big weather system from the west/north-west to get a boat load of snow.;)

When I was studying in St. Petersburg, we'd get, like, Gulf of Finland-effect snow. Some of those blizzards were pretty scary. Awesome, but scary. I'd get off the trolley and start walking the three blocks to my apartment, and after a few seconds, all I'd be able to see was white...so I'd shuffle along the curb, following it to where I knew the building was...it was like something out of Little House on the Prairie :D

Lord help me, last night it was 45 degrees out and I thought I was going to freeze. I've become too acclimated to Texas. I'm gonna die when I go visit my parents in Wisconsin for Christmas...

I do so look foward to seeing snow, though :)

Hehehe. I'm a Texan myself. I was born and raised in central Texas, so I know exactly what you're saying. I still live in the South, though, and the weather patterns are the same.

I'm thankful for the cold weather right now. Hurricane season is over! Even if we do get another storm, it won't be as bad, since there's not as much gasoline (hot sea water) to intensify it before coming onshore.

I too am happy!!

Sometimes it's pretty amazing. Where I live in Michigan, we don't get lake effect snow like they do near the coasts. But I was up in the UP (upper penninsula) some years ago, waaay up in the "bunny ears" of the state, on the Kewanaw Penninsula, surrounded on three sides by water. It seemed to snow ALL the time, even when there were no visible clouds in the sky . . . that was just weird. Before the moisture from the lake (Lake Superior) could even form clouds, it was already coming back down in the form of snow flurries. This made for a strange situation. Sunny skies, no clouds . . . and snow flurries. :D

Even weirder is hoarfrost.

That's when the air temperature is so cold (usually 10 degrees below zero or colder) that the moisture in the air freezes into minute ice crystals and just trickles out of the air onto the ground. This is different from snow, which is basically frozen precipitation. Hoarfrost is frozen humidity, more or less. It only occurs at really cold temperatures, and it's incredibly beautiful, especially when the sun is shining. It's sort of like being in a gigantic glass globe full of water watching glitter flowing down all around you.

Great stuff. :)

When I lived in Syracuse that would happen as well...especially when I went up to Oswego. You guys can keep that lake effect stuff! I like Maine where we can at least plan our shoveling events!:)

Last night was the first time so far this season that I "knew" snow was coming....it was below freezing and bbbbrrrrrrrr was it cold!

It's 50 here and that's about my limit, can't go any lower than that. It just got this way too, 2 days ago it was 80. These are first few cold days we have so far. The only good thing I will say about cold this year is we need it to kill some of the mold spores many of us have growing in our houses.

But snow is clod and wet and wet and cold. And you can slip and fall on the ice and break your neck. I shutter just thinking of it. It snowed here on Christmas day last year, yeah it was fun at first, coming back from Mass little cotton ball looking things fell from the sky, but when we were out in, it’s wet and it’s cold, not fluffy and cute like the pictures make it look. I could probably handle it once a year but no more than that. I’ll live with broken levees 9 ft below sea level before I live in snow 6 months out the year.

SNOW <~~ Four letter word. :p

I like it on Christmas Eve and Christmas...and it's ok for Valentines and New Years...the rest of the winter a nice 60 degrees would suit me fine. :) lol

{Hey I hate the miserably white stuff, and almost lost my foot from it. lol}

It was 19 degrees out this morning in SW-Ohio. It's only suppose to get to the mid-30's. It's about TIME! I love winter. Love snow, blizzards, ice. I lived, for a time, in a place that had no weather. BORING! Gimme tornados, gale-force winds, green air, thunder and lightening. Nature's majesty.

I had my first day of snow EVER this week. Granted, it wasn't much, but it still made me excited...and if it weren't for the cold it would be even more awesome!
I'm a little afraid to go home for Thanksgiving break...I heard it's over 75. I'll be dying from the heat! :D

I don't even like it on Christmas. When I still lived in Texas, we'd always go to my grandmother's home in Galveston to celebrate the holiday. Later on that day, we'd be out it the pool swimming! It became tradition. Now, I'm a little teed if it's cold on Christmas and I can't honor my family this way.
